A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 855

Hearing Fairfax take her side made Darian's expression darken. If it were anyone else on the line, he would have lost his temper.

"What are you talking about?"

"You and she will never have a future unless you cut ties with the Lynn family," Fairfax stated flatly.

He knew it better than anyone. Fighting the system was useless unless Darian was willing to completely abandon his family's empire for Tanya. And could he? Fairfax hadn't been able to do it for Starla back then. Would Darian really do it now?

Darian was stunned. "You..."

"Otherwise, it's a dead end."

There would be no future. Even if they forced it, even if they got a marriage license, it wouldn't mean a damn thing.

Seeing how bad things were for Darian, Fairfax dropped his request and hung up.

Standing in the cool night air, Darian stared at his darkened screen. He felt a chill seep into his bones, settling deep in his chest.

Fairfax said they had no future. Were they really doomed? But they had a baby on the way!

...

Meanwhile, in Yoran Country.

When Starla found out Tanya hadn't managed to leave with Garret's men, she gave a knowing smile. "They've got a long road ahead of them."

The moment she found out Darian knew about the pregnancy, she knew Tanya's plan to quietly take care of it wouldn't be easy.

"Do we need to make another move?" Garret asked.

"Stand down for now."

Her hands instinctively curled into fists.

"Yes," Garret confirmed. "Our team arrived right as Mr. Farley's men showed up. Things got physical, and..." He paused. "Mr. Farley's men drew their weapons."

Starla's face, already tight, turned dangerously cold.

"Guns. How ironic," she muttered.

This was the same Herbert who had stood by her in Marina City. The man who had protected her and fiercely opposed everything Fairfax had done to her.

And now? Now he was acting exactly like Fairfax.

A crushing wave of helplessness washed over her, a feeling that she was trapped by fate. It was as if she simply wasn't allowed to encounter a decent man. She felt surrounded by a suffocating, impenetrable fog.
