"Look at that," Tanya sneered. "You haven't been gone five minutes and she's already causing problems again."

Darian checked the caller ID. "It's not about her. Stop being so paranoid."

If she was going to connect every single phone call to Yulisa, this was going to be an unbearable night.

"Oh really?"

"It's Fairfax."

Seeing Fairfax Yelchin's name on his screen actually made Darian's stomach drop. Not too long ago, he had almost gotten Caden Larson dragged into a mess. If Fairfax was calling to ask for a favor now, it was basically a death sentence.

Hearing it was Fairfax, Tanya let out a cold laugh.

"I need to take this," Darian said. "Go to sleep if you're tired."

He walked a few steps away, clearly not wanting to have the conversation in front of her. But Tanya didn't move. She strained her ears, desperate to know what Fairfax wanted.

"Hey," Darian answered.

"I need a favor," Fairfax said.

Darian cringed. Seriously?

"Why are you and Tanya fighting?" Fairfax asked. He had always suspected their relationship wouldn't last. He knew the Yelchin family dynamics, and he knew Tanya was fiercely independent. From the beginning, he assumed she was just having fun with Darian.

Darian poured out the entire story, detailing everything from his family's interference to Yulisa's situation. He didn't miss a single detail.

"Tell me she isn't being completely unreasonable," Darian vented. "She used a knife! And she doesn't even care about the baby."

The danger to their unborn child was the one thing he absolutely could not forgive.

Fairfax was silent for a long moment.

Then he said, "Let her go."

Darian froze.
