"It wasn't stealing," Fairfax muttered defensively.

"Whatever you say. Anyway, there's a massive move happening in the Black Sea the day after tomorrow. Get ready." They dropped the personal banter, both their expressions hardening at the mention of the Black Sea.

Fairfax lit a cigarette, taking a drag before glancing at his dead-silent phone. Starla hadn't replied. She was completely ignoring him.

"What a cold-hearted woman," he muttered, his imposing aura fading into a bitter ache.

Percy walked in just as Amos was leaving. "Sir, we have a situation."

Since returning, Fairfax had Percy monitoring Yoran Country—specifically keeping tabs on Herbert, Yardley, and Starla. He was terrified something would happen to the naïve woman. His obsession had entirely shifted from Brinley to Starla.
