A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 875

After ending the call with Tanya, Garret walked in. "Brinley has been throwing a fit, demanding to see you."

A cold smirk touched Starla's lips. "Let her scream. She'll run out of breath eventually. She only wants to talk and beg for mercy now that she's suffering. It's pathetic. I told her to value her life."

Garret nodded. "Mr. Farley's men are still tearing the city apart looking for her. He clearly didn't buy the ashes stunt."

"Did the lab results come back?"

"They did. He still doesn't believe it."

Starla let out a dry laugh. "Why is she so damn important to him?"

Tanya's words echoed in her mind: Herbert wasn't the type to blindly compromise for a dead lover's sister. It was highly likely tied to some hidden agenda or leverage. Herbert's mind was a fortress; if he didn't want you to know something, you could dig forever and find nothing.

"I have a feeling there's another reason, but I can't pinpoint it," Garret admitted.

Starla's eyes gleamed with a dark calculation.

"Should we investigate?"

"Not exactly behind his back, but I want to go to Ravena Country, and he will definitely try to stop me." Garret was the only person she could rely on right now. If he was loyal to her, great. If not, things were going to get very messy.

Garret looked at her with unwavering loyalty. "I answer to you, Miss." Since returning to Yoran Country, Garret had sensed something deeply unsettling about the way Yardley and Herbert were treating Starla. Anyone in her position would want to escape. She shouldn't have to endure this.

"Thank you," she said softly.

"Would you like me to make the arrangements?"

"Yes. We leave the day after tomorrow." She had agreed to see her father, but she had never agreed to stay. Her resolve to leave was absolute.
