A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 878

Fairfax had already gathered intel on Starla's circumstances. Yes, she was the princess of the Hoggart family, but the politics surrounding her were incredibly dangerous. Her bloodline was a chain she couldn't simply outrun. He knew exactly what she was trying to doโ€”escape to a quiet place without Herbert or her family and just live a simple life.

But Fairfax knew that was an impossible fantasy.

Starla's breath hitched. "What do you know?"

"Being the Hoggart princess isn't as glamorous as it sounds," his voice was dark and serious.

Before returning to Yoran Country, she hadn't overthought it. But Fairfax was right; being home was turning into a nightmare.

"Come to the Cyrus Sea. I'll protect you."

Starla let out a dry, bitter laugh. "You? Protect me? Do you even hear how ridiculous that sounds?"

Herbert and Yardley had disappointed her, but the person she trusted the absolute least in this world was Fairfax. And now he was offering protection?

Back in Marina City, he couldn't even shield her properly from his own family.

Trust was fragile, and once shattered, it could never be rebuilt. Fairfax was dead serious, but to Starla, it was the punchline of a sick joke.

"I'm not joking," Fairfax murmured, his chest tightening with a suffocating wave of regret.

Herbert was doing the exact same thing now. She was too hard to control, so his gentle facade had completely evaporated.

"Your situation is dangerous right now. I just want to help you survive it."

As for their past, he knew this wasn't the time to beg for forgiveness. He knew she might never forgive him.

"I'm sending someone to get you. Cancel the trip to Ravena Country," he ordered softly. It killed him to see her cornered by Herbert and betrayed by her own brother.

"I don't need it," she refused with absolute coldness.
