A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 879

"This isn't the time to be willful," Fairfax pressed, his heart in his throat.

"If I want to be willful, I'll deal with the consequences myself. Is that a problem?" Since the beginning, she had always been the only one left to pick up her own shattered pieces.

Her words felt like a physical blow to his chest. Suffocating. Agonizing.

Before hanging up, she fired a final warning, "Don't send your men. I don't want them, and I won't go with them." The line went dead.

Fairfax pinched the bridge of his nose, an intense headache building behind his eyes.

"Sir? Should we still send a team for the Madam?" Percy asked, carefully using her proper title now that he saw how desperate his boss was.

Fairfax took a deep drag of his cigarette, staring off into the horizon. "I'll go myself."

"What idea?" Fairfax asked, exhausted.

"The core issue here is Herbert. He's actively trying to steal your wife. Are you really not going to hit back?" Amos was genuinely surprised. Fairfax was usually a ruthless, vengeful bastard, but he had been shockingly passive about Herbert making moves on Starla. Now that Fairfax was back in power at the Cyrus Sea, crushing Herbert would be entirely within his reach.

"You want me to assassinate him?" Fairfax deadpanned. It was an idiotic suggestion. Killing Herbert on his own turf was near impossible. Unless Herbert came to the Cyrus Sea, he was untouchable. "Say something useful."
