A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 907

*General Licht?*

"Who is that?" The name sounded vaguely familiar, but Fairfax couldn't place it immediately.

Yet, just hearing it carried an undeniable, oppressive weight. Even as just a name...

"You haven't heard of General Licht of the Ferian Republic?"

Fairfax's memory sparked! "Him?"

"Yes. Him."

"What on earth does he want with Brinley?"

Fairfax was highly skeptical. He assumed Herbert was trying to bluff him. Given the General's staggering status, what possible value could an insignificant woman like Brinley hold? They belonged to entirely different universes.

Hearing they were somehow connected sounded completely absurd.

"I don't know the exact reason," Herbert admitted. "But he has been relentlessly demanding I hand her over."

It was the truth. When the General first forcefully requested Brinley, Herbert had been just as surprised. He had sent people to investigate, but still had no solid answers.

However, if a man of that caliber was so adamant about securing her, Brinley had to be an extraordinary asset to him.

Because of the General's unyielding stance, Herbert and Yardley had originally planned to use Brinley to negotiate a lucrative exchange. But then...

Thinking of the furious, thunderous phone call he had received from the General yesterday, Herbert's headache flared up again.

"Ha. You're definitely lying," Fairfax sneered.

Herbert couldn't even invent a decent excuse as to why the General wanted her.

"I'm not lying! Starla needs to be with me right now."

"She'll be just fine with me. I can protect her perfectly well, assuming you're even telling the truth."

And that was a big *if*! Fairfax still believed it was utterly impossible. "She's going to the Black Sea, but she won't be traveling with you."
