A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 927

Go inside?

Go inside to do what...?

Starla closed her eyes. "Is Yardley home?"

Yardley. Not "my brother." The familial title had been completely erased from her vocabulary.

It was the desperate rebellion of a broken heartโ€”knowing she was trapped, yet fighting to sever the emotional ties anyway. It was a useless form of resistance.

Back in Marina City, she had fought tooth and nail, claws bared. Now, she was just a caged animal.

"Mr. Hoggart is waiting for you in his study," Garret replied softly.

Starla didn't say another word.

She stood frozen in place for what felt like an eternity, the freezing wind biting at her skin, before finally forcing herself to walk through the grand doors.

No matter how much she hated it, she was back in this gilded cage.

When she walked into the study, Yardley was on the phone.

"Tie her up. I'm hanging up," he barked into the receiver before slamming it down.

He looked up, his expression stern. But the moment his eyes met Starla's shattered gaze, the hard lines of his face softened.

She was his little sister, after all. He could never truly be ruthless with her.

"Come in," Yardley said.

Instead of walking toward his desk, Starla veered off and sank into one of the plush sofas, completely ignoring his directive.

Yardley let out a heavy sigh, his exasperation mixing with an undeniable undercurrent of guilt.

"I see you're genuinely furious this time."

Starla stared straight ahead.
