A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 928

"You shouldn't be reacting to his death like this," Yardley continued. "He deserved it. And you wanted him gone anyway, didn't you?"

Given the absolute chaos they had caused back in Marina City, how could there possibly be any lingering sparks between them?

Starla just stared at him in dead silence.

Trying to communicate with someone whose moral compass was in a completely different universe was pointless. Arguing would only exhaust her further.

"The wedding date with Herbert is officially set. The bridal team will be here tomorrow with the dresses. Pick one you like. As for Fairfax..."

Yardley paused, studying her face.

"Forget him. That man broke your heart a thousand times over. He isn't worth ruining your relationship with Herbert over."

Starla remained motionless.

"Herbert is a fantastic match for you."

Yardley launched into a one-sided lecture about Herbert's virtues and Fairfax's flaws, completely oblivious to whether Starla was actually listening.

"So this is just an order, then?" she interrupted softly.

"This is the best possible arrangement for you."

Starla found that incredibly funny.

"Does Dad know about this?"

She hadn't seen Elmer since she got back.

"This was his decision as well," Yardley stated flatly.

Starla didn't say another word.

...

She didn't even remember how she made it out of his study.

But the moment she locked her bedroom door, she pulled out a burner phone and fired off a quick text.

Today, they did absolutely nothing for her.

Before long, her spacious bedroom was swarming with the bridal team and racks of extravagant gowns.

They had brought a staggering amount of options.

Models paraded back and forth in front of her, showcasing the different silhouettes so she could make an initial selection.

But as the models completed rotation after rotation, Starla didn't nod at a single dress.

A thin layer of sweat began to form on the forehead of the team's manager.

By the fifth rotation, Kara, the manager in the sharp blazer, was visibly stressed. "Miss Lansbury, is there truly nothing that catches your eye?"

Starla had been entirely zoned out.

Her mind was miles away from the tulle and lace. Pulled back to reality by the manager's voice, she glanced at the meticulously dressed woman and paused for a beat.

Then she gave a flat, two-word answer: "Not one."
