The air seemed to freeze completely in that instant. I forgot how to breathe.

His dark, bottomless eyes were swirling with a deep, indescribable undercurrent. My gaze, as if controlled by some invisible force, landed on his perfectly shaped lips, Goddess above! In those fleeting seconds, an utterly disgraceful desire burst from the depths of my soul. I wanted him to lean down, wanted him to kiss me with the lips that once ignited every part of me.

“I’ve arranged a professional styling team. The Lunar Gala is crucial for the Bloodmoon Pack. I expect you to show up with the presence befitting a Luna.” He turned his back to me, his imposing and indifferent silhouette filling the room. “Don’t be late.”

With that, he strode toward the door. The wooden door opened and then closed behind him with a decisive finality.

The dull thud of the door echoed in the spacious study, shattering the fleeting and ridiculous hope that had just stirred in my

chest.

I leaned against the edge of the desk, staring blankly ahead. The heart in my chest, which had pounded uncontrollably at his proximity moments before, now beat painfully slow, each thud dragging me down. I let out a heavy sigh and shut my eyes. Slowly, I took one long, deep breath, as if somehow it could push out every sharp twinge stabbing at my chest and purge those ridiculous daydreams along with it. My hand pressed hard against my stomach, desperately trying to suppress the nauseating discomfort stirred up by my swirling emotions. “Stop dreaming.” The venomous curse from that old hag Amara still lingered in my ears. No pack would ever truly accept a defect like me. The only person I could rely on was myself.

I snapped my eyes open, shoving all my weakness and despair into the deepest, darkest corner of my soul, Walking over to the dressing mirror, I stared at the pale–faced woman reflected back at me.
