Abandoned While Pregnant, Claimed by the Alpha novel Chapter 27

Chapter 27

I didn’t even glance at the food she brought. Instead, I swirled the wine in my glass, watching her as she put on her little act. “Sit,” I said, gesturing with a nod to the chair across from me.

She blinked, clearly surprised, before she hurriedly took a seat. Even then, she perched lightly on the edge of the chair, her posture carefully humble, like she was ready to obey my every command.

“How are you settling into the pack?” I asked, my tone deliberately mild.

“Oh, absolutely, Alpha! The Bloodmoon Pack is like paradise for all werewolves!” She lit up instantly, her excitement practically spilling over. “Everyone here has so much respect for you! It’s just… well, there’s a

bit of concern…”

“Concern?” I raised an eyebrow. Looks like the fish finally took the bait.

“Yes,” she said quietly, watching my reaction carefully, her voice dropping lower. “People are saying that… you’re such a powerful Alpha, but you’ve never had a Luna by your side… The elders are worried

about the pack’s future, about, um, the next heir…”

Ah, so that’s it. Those meddlesome old fools again, trying their luck to interfere in my personal life. Did

they really think I wouldn’t see through their schemes? That I’d just accept any random female in heat to

fill the empty seat at my side?

They don’t get it. All they care about is a womb to bear a child or a Luna to make things look proper. But me? From the very start, all I’ve ever wanted is Ashley.

“So, they sent you to ‘fix’ my little problem?” My voice had turned cold, laced with biting sarcasm.

Cora’s face turned bright red. She stood abruptly, circling the table to stand beside me. Then, in the

boldest move yet, she dropped to her knees at my feet, her expression full of tempting desperation.

“Alpha,” she said, voice trembling as she reached out, her hand daring to move toward the buttons of my

shirt, “I’ll do anything for you! I’d even bear the strongest heir for you… as long as you’ll let me…”

Her fingers, burning hot, brushed against the skin on my chest. The sickly sweet scent of her perfume

grew stronger, slithering into my bloodstream like a venomous snake, igniting a dangerous heat. It was a

cheap chemical bait, designed to trigger a male wolf’s instincts-crude, yet effective.

My body betrayed me. My cock hardened.

As her hand reached for the second button on my shirt, I struck. My hand shot out and clamped around

her slim neck.

“Ack-”

Her seductive whispers and fake moans turned into a sharp, panicked scream. I lifted her off the ground like she was nothing more than a filthy stray cat. Her blue eyes widened, filled with terror and the agony

of choking.

“Go back,” I growled, my voice a low snarl, sharp and icy as death itself. “Tell those meddling old fools this: my life isn’t theirs to control. They don’t get to decide who my Luna will be or who bears my heir. I decide. And if they try this again, I’ll snap every single one of your necks.”

I released her, throwing her aside like trash. She scrambled away, tripping over herself as she bolted out of the dining room. The sickening stench of her perfume, though, lingered in the air, refusing to dissipate.

Damn it!

Unbidden, a restless, foreign heat raged through me, clawing at my insides. I slammed my fist down on the table. The solid hardwood cracked under the force.

If I wanted to, one call would bring a flood of prettier, more obedient she-wolves to drown out this cursed fire burning in me.

But I didn’t want them.

My body screamed for a release, but my soul was shouting one name over and over again.

Ashley.

I stormed up the stairs, taking two at a time, and slammed into my bedroom. The door clicked shut behind me as I locked it. The desire, stirred up by the damn drug, gnawed at my sanity like a wild beast.

I yanked open the bottom drawer of my nightstand and pulled out a picture frame.

Ashley.

The photo was taken at one of our pack celebrations. She was in a pale moon-colored gown, standing under an oak tree strung with fairy lights, smiling softly. She hadn’t known I was watching her then, much less that I’d captured that moment. That smile of hers-it was so pure, so genuine, like the

untouched snow on an Alpine peak.

My fingers, trembling with something that felt too reverent to describe, brushed lightly across her face in

the photo.
