Abandoned While Pregnant, Claimed by the Alpha novel Chapter 70

Chapter 70

She was pouring milk.

On the way back, my emotions were still burning like wildfire. But the moment I saw her, all of it faded, leaving only a deep sense of relief.

I instinctively hid all my sharp edges.

Ashley’s POV

I froze on the spot, the cold milk carton still gripped in my hand. Truthfully, I didn’t know how to face Hebert.

He stood in the kitchen doorway, his tall frame swallowing up all the

light from behind him, trapping me in shadow. The crisp scent of forest air, layered with the chill of wind and soil, flowed off him, and yet it couldn’t mask the lingering fury in the Alpha scent that clung to him.

My heart was pounding wildly against my ribs. I expected him to say something, to demand something from me-after all, the way he’d acted earlier was nothing short of terrifying.

But he stood there, silent.

He just walked past me with those long strides, silent as ever. The sheer intensity of his presence brushed against my shoulder, making every hair on my body stand on end.

He headed straight to the fridge and pulled it open. The cold light from inside outlined the broad expanse of his back. He took out a carton of eggs, a box of blueberries, and a bottle of maple syrup, placing them one by one on the counter.

Then he turned back to face me. Those deep eyes of his, which had once been storming with emotions, were now calm. So calm, in fact, they were like an endless, silent night.

“Hungry?” His voice was low, carrying a slight rasp from being out in the wilderness, but oddly, there wasn’t even a trace of aggression in it.

I nodded instinctively, too dry-throated to utter a single word. Not only was I starving, but the little life inside me was greedily demanding energy in its own relentless way.

Without another word, he started rolling up his sleeves. He undid the buttons on his cuffs and casually pushed them up, revealing forearms that were strong and solid, the muscles defined and crossed faintly with visible veins.

He began cracking eggs. His movements were so practiced, so effortless, you’d never guess he was an Alpha used to commanding others. The yolks broke into the bowl, a bright golden yellow as he whisked, adding flour through a sifter and slowly pouring in milk. Every motion was smooth, unhurried, and there was a rhythm to it-a strange, quiet rhythm that somehow made me feel… safe.

I stood there, staring at the man who had been like a raging beast just an hour ago. Now, he was calmly focused on making food for me.

It was ridiculous.

Soon, a soft sizzling sound came from the pan, and the rich aroma of butter and batter quickly filled the kitchen. He slid a few golden pancakes onto a plate, added a handful of fresh blueberries on top, and finished it off with a drizzle of golden maple syrup.

“Eat.” He placed the plate in front of me.

I sat down stiffly, picked up a fork, and cut off a small piece of pancake to taste it. The fluffy texture, the burst of blueberry juice, and the sweetness of the syrup – it was genuinely delicious.

I ate fast, almost stuffing myself. He didn’t sit down, just leaned against the counter across from me, arms crossed, watching me. His gaze was steady and intense, with no trace of desire, yet it left my heart racing far more than any provocative look could have.

He kept watching me, like I was some precious treasure he had just gotten back.

When I finished the last bite, he finally spoke, his voice calm but the question completely unexpected.

“Did Brian ever make pancakes for you?”

The fork in my hand froze mid-air.

Of course not. Brian always took everything for granted. He’d enjoy everything I laid out for him but never once thought about doing anything for me. To him, I was just Luna-a symbol, a tool-not someone to be cared for or spoiled as a partner.

“No,” I answered honestly, my voice calm and flat. “Other than my dad, you’re the first alpha to ever make me blueberry muffins in the middle of the night.” 1
