ACCIDENTALLY MARRIED TO THE BILLIONAIRE SINGLE DAD (Gabrielle and Damon) novel Chapter 99

CHAPTER NINETY NINE

DAMON’S POV

My meeting was long overdue but I kept stalling and pushing it forward to spend more time with my wife.

She had no idea how often I thought about her whenever I was away. It consumed me so deeply, like a drug addict waiting for

their next fix.

Except, I was still functional without it.

I got out of the hotel elevator and into the private area where the meeting would be taking place.

To my surprise, the hall was empty. There were indicators that people had been in the roomuseless file covers, a pen or two, and empty water bottlesbut that was it.

Your investors are still waiting for you,I heard a familiar voice say behind me. They’re in the other private area.

I shoved my hands in my pockets as I turned around slowly, my eyes meeting Selene’s. Is this a joke?

She shrugged. I only told them that the venue was the hall across from this one. What’s the big deal? You’re late anyway.

I narrowed my gaze at her. You’re abusing your leverage, Selene. My mother may have loved you but she’s dead now. Don’t push me.

I walked past her but her voice reached me by the door, bringing me to a halt.

Gabrielle called me.

I paused, my hand on the doorknob. What did you two discuss?

I heard her scoff. You’re not even going to look at me?

I faced her again, but this time, my irritation had worsened. “Go straight to the point.

She gestured at the cameras at all ends of the room. How about we go somewhere more private? You don’t want outsiders listening in on our conversations, do you?

I hesitated between walking away and hearing what she had to say. Without another word, I followed her to a private…. bedroom?

What the fuck is this, Selene?I asked, my patience thinning by the second.

She giggled softly. Relax, Damon. It’s just a bedroom and there’s nothing wrong with it. I’m sure you can resist my sex appeal for a few minutes.

I had no idea what her game was but I had my guard up. Speaking to her in a private room like this had already put me in a bad spot. I couldn’t risk it anymore.

Selene strutted to the table and sat on it, pouring water from her glass into a pot plant as if I wasn’t standing in front of her.

She raised her gaze to mine and drank the remaining water in the glass slowly, holding eye contact.

My nostrils flared. I asked you a question, Selene.

Jeez, I know, she said, picking up the plant and staring at it intently. You should start apologizing. The earlier you do, the sooner we can get back together.

Her eyes raised to mine again, a smile on her lips as she tilted her head slightly. Like I told Gabrielle we were planning to.

My chest squeezed uncomfortably. Why the fuck did you do that?

She smiled and poured herself another glass of water from the jar on the table.

She drank again and then sighed. I’ve been thirsty waiting for you for over an hour.

That’s on you. I never asked to see you in case you forgot. What did you discuss with my wife?

She heaved a sigh, looking away from me as she ran her hand through her hair. It’s always my wife this, and my wife that with you. When are you going to drop this act and stop being moody with me?

My jaw tightened. When are you going to stop avoiding my question?

I know it’s the only reason you’re still here, she said, dropping the glass on the desk. I tell you what you need to know and you’re out of here immediately. Don’t you know it hurts so much that I’m not the one you call your wife?

I gave her a blank stare until she finally sighed and crossed her arms across her chest.

I was supposed to be your wife after Cassie, not Gabby, she said, her voice breaking. Beatrice was still trying to reach me hence why I didn’t come earlier. But I’m here now.

What did you tell her?I asked again, fighting the urge to throw the glass and jar out the window.

I needed to know that she didn’t get into Gabrielle’s head.

Selene was very manipulative, even when we were teenagers. I’d seen her turn adults against each other and cause family feuds to get what she wanted.

She sighed, her expression sad. If that’s all you want from me, then it’s fine. I may have said something about visiting the place we used to when we were younger andsome other things.

That we were going to get back together?

Her eyes widened in surprise. How did you know?

My wife told me,I responded, taking a step closer to her. I told her it was a lie.

She shrugged as if she didn’t care but I knew she did. Why did you have to lie to her? Would you prefer we got back together in secret?

We aren’t getting back together. Maybe I haven’t explicitly said that before but I’m saying it now,I responded. We were done years ago.

Her eyes teared up and she looked away from me.

Maybe if I could feel my emotions then I’d feel bad for making her cry. But right now, I didn’t. I couldn’t even feel angry or frustrated. All I felt was a dull irritation in my chest.

What games are you playing, Selene?I asked after a moment passed.

She sniffed and turned back to look at me. I’m not playing any games with you.

Then what do you want?

She wiped the tears away and walked past me to sit on the bed. I don’t know what you’re talking about, Damon.

I glanced down at my watch. I don’t have the time for this. What is it you want so I can give it to you?

A smile formed on her lips so quickly that I thought I had only imagined her crying a few seconds ago.

You talk big game about your wife but we both know your marriage is shaking in its roots. We both know Gabrielle doesn’t trust you.
