Livia:
"Don't try to be oversmart. Just do what I'm telling you," Nina hissed as she snatched her husband's file out of my hand.
Over the last few weeks, I had realized that the circumstances under which President Sawyer had fallen into a coma were very odd.
There had been no mention of him telling anyone that he was marrying Nina.
How the heck did she suddenly appear, claiming she was his wife?
Today, she must have heard me discussing it with someone because she snapped at me.
"I will take my leave," I uttered, bowing to her before I turned around and walked away.
My neck hurt, and my body ached.
I was so fucking tired trying to do my best to fill the shoes of the previous researcher, but it was not easy.
She had left such a mark that I could not fill her shoes, but I was still trying my best.
That was when I felt the itch again.
This had happened before, so I knew what it meant.
I had been feeling this strange anxiety in my body for a while now.
Then Daniel started blowing up my phone.
"Hello, Daniel. What is it?" I asked, putting the phone on speaker as I drove away from the hospital.
"You need to come to the mountain top. There is an emergency."
The urgency in Daniel's voice made me clutch the steering wheel tightly.
"I'll be there," I said, taking a wide turn and heading toward the mountain.
I knew where Daniel was.
He had been my best friend for a very long time.
We had studied together. We had worked in the same research facility, and he was now my assistant.
Well, kind of.
As soon as I reached the mountain top, I noticed an ambulance parked there.
They were taking someone inside.
"What is it?" I asked, approaching him in a low voice.
Daniel looked around to make sure nobody was listening.
"It dropped someone else this time," he whispered.
The hair on the back of my neck stood up.
"Who is it?" I asked, my hands in my lab coat pockets.
Inside the pockets, they were clenched tightly, hinting at my anxiety.
"I don't know. Some man. But let me tell you, he's very big and strong. However, it seems like the monster did a number on him. He's quite bloody."
Daniel explained, his glasses slipping down the bridge of his nose before he pushed them back.
I looked into the distance to see the man, but he was already being loaded into the ambulance.
"Take him to my research hospital," I yelled at the driver.
The driver nodded.
"What are we going to do? Are we going to hide this case as well?" Daniel asked.
He had to be a werewolf.
But how the heck did that thing defeat such a big werewolf?
And why did it bring him here instead of killing him?
For the next few hours, his condition was critical.
We were doing everything we could.
The wounds were fresh, so I could tell it had attacked him and then instantly brought him here.
Daniel had always been on the lookout after the last time, so we were lucky to get our hands on him quickly.
It took us hours to patch him up.
Once we were done, we walked out of the room in confusion.
"His neurological response is extremely low," I mumbled after checking all his test results.
"He appears to be in a coma now,” I added.
"But why would the monster attack him and leave him alive?" Daniel asked.
Daniel mentioning the monster made me remember the first time I had seen it.
My body prickled with goosebumps.
"I don't know, but all I know is that this man is a werewolf," I whispered.
Daniel's eyes widened.
I just did not know who he was.
