"But you said you would post my pictures once the president was awake," I reminded Daniel of his own statement.

He turned his face away, looking guilty that he wasn't following through on his promise.

"Actually, things are complicated. He has woken up, but we have to keep that information from his wife."

Daniel sighed.

"His second wife is a mess. We don't know exactly what's going on, but she's not allowed anywhere near him. As far as she's concerned, we've told her that he's still undergoing treatment and that his condition is critical."

He paused before continuing.

"So we're maintaining that facade until he fully recovers."

Daniel fed me a bunch of bullshit.

I couldn't understand why my case was tied to the president's situation in the first place.

What did he have to do with me?

Was I somehow related to the president?

"Look, please don't force me. It'll all make sense in due time. It's just that I don't want to get into trouble by telling you more than I'm allowed to."

Daniel rubbed his hands together anxiously as he spoke.

Just then, a knock sounded at the door.

Daniel seemed almost too happy to use it as an excuse to get away from me.

His parents had returned, and they weren't very comfortable around me.
