Elgin:
"I, Alpha Elgin, reject you as my mate."
The moment the words left my mouth, I knew my decision was final.
Everyone was watching me.
Lord John shook his head, looking as though he was holding back tears.
He didn't want his daughter's marriage to fall apart.
But Silver seemed to have given up.
She didn't try to stop me.
She didn't fall at my feet and beg me to reconsider.
The fact that she had deceived me for so many years burned like poison inside me.
I had been a fool. I had ruined my own life.
If she had never come between us, I would have accepted Madeline, and we would have built a life together.
Madeline would never have left the werewolf world.
So much pain could have been avoided.
Silver met my gaze before grabbing both of her daughters by the arms.
At that point, I no longer cared about Hailey and Hannah.
I don't know what happened to me, but the moment I found out they weren't my daughters, something inside me changed.
A switch had flipped.
I no longer gave a damn about them.
The love I had once felt for them seemed to vanish the instant the truth came out.
I was done.
Silver smiled at me, almost as if she were taunting me.
Then she said, "I accept your rejection."
Of course she did.
She knew she had left no room for reconciliation.
She had destroyed us. This was all her fault.
I nodded, dragging a hand down my face.
"Now take your daughters and get the fuck out," I growled. "And you'd better believe this doesn't end here."
The moment I said that, her eyes widened.
Did she really think she could fool me and walk away without consequences?
It wasn't that simple.
If I let this go unpunished, everyone would think it was easy to deceive Alpha Elgin and get away with it.
"Well, bring it on, Elgin," Silver shot back. "Because trust me, I'm not Madeline. I'll play just as dirty as you."
To my surprise, she wasn't backing down.
She kept throwing my words right back at me, and it was getting under my skin.
I cracked my knuckles and held her gaze.
A moment later, she smiled to herself.
"I'll leave with my daughters," she said. "But let's see how you fix your relationship with your daughter. You've been nothing but a terrible father from the beginning."
For someone who had played such twisted games, Silver certainly had a lot to say.
I remained silent because I wanted her gone.
But just before leaving, she stopped.
Then she turned around and shot an annoyed glare at Kaylee.
Robinson had been a royal Beta for a very long time.
His knowledge and experience were difficult to question.
"And the fact that all of this happened at the school makes me wonder if there was a motive behind it," Kaylee added confidently.
I had to admit it.
Compared to Silver, Kaylee was a better choice.
She might have been messy at times, but she remained loyal to her man.
She wasn't bad-looking either.
"Think about it," Kaylee continued. "The principal didn't know about the DNA test. It looked like the teacher planned it, but she must have been working for someone else."
She maintained a dignified posture as she spoke.
"It makes me wonder who orchestrated it and why."
"So you're telling me a teacher disguised the consent forms as something else, got Silver to sign them, arranged the DNA test, and exposed the results to the entire world so everyone would know Elgin doesn't have an heir anymore?" my mother asked.
Kaylee nodded confidently.
At that moment, everything started to make sense.
She wasn't wrong.
The pieces were falling into place.
"Well, they don't know I have a daughter," I said proudly. "Elara."
I was already missing my sweet little angel.
"Haven't you signed away your rights to her?" Kaylee asked carefully. "Didn't you give her up?"
My heart dropped.
Kaylee's words reminded me of the stupid agreement I had signed with Silver when I was desperately trying to win her back.
