Livia:
"How is she?" Daniel asked, crouching beside me.
I smiled at the little girl in front of me, who had been building something with her blocks for the past few hours.
Turning to Daniel, I returned his smile.
"She can speak again," I said, watching his eyes widen.
He tried not to show too much excitement because that would be wrong.
It would make the little girl self-conscious and might even scare her.
So we were trying to let it happen naturally.
"Yeah, she woke up crying and saying she misses her family, her mommy, her daddy, and her siblings," I said, repeating her words.
I smiled at her as she looked down and continued building something.
"That's great news. It seems like we're being blessed with good news left and right," he commented, making me nod excitedly.
"Any news on President Sawyer?" I asked, and he nodded.
"He's doing much better. I mean, his blood pressure is normal and everything. Sooner or later, h'll open his eyes and he'll speak," Daniel informed me.
I already knew that.
Our plan could either go very well or very badly.
Either he'd be happy that we didn't tell his wife, his second wife, or he'd wake up furious that we did.
"Well, I'm really happy that he's waking up. Once he's awake, we'll finally find out what really happened to him," I said, smiling as I looked back at the child.
"So, kiddo, what was your mother like?" Daniel asked.
She looked up, stared at him, then lowered her gaze again.
"How did you get here? Did the winged monster bring you here?" I asked.
I watched her little fingers scrape against the wooden block. Then she looked up and nodded.
"He's not a monster," she finally spoke up, and her voice was so cute.
Both Daniel and I smiled at the sound of it before I cleared my throat and slid closer to her.
"Why would you say that?" I asked.
She shrugged and continued focusing on the blocks.
"When he took me away," she began, "I was bleeding because of his claws, but he was so caring. He used to hum lullabies to me. Then I started to feel very drowsy. He carried me here."
She paused, and I noticed her little lips curl downward.
"I miss Mommy, Bodhi, and my sister, Elara."
As she let out soft whimpers, I immediately pulled her into a hug.
She started to cry.
"I miss my daddy too. I left my sweater in the cave because I thought Daddy would find me."
