"Then where is he now? Did he leave you? Was he one of the bad guys?"

I bombarded her with questions because this was the first time she had ever spoken to me about my father.

Each question only seemed to make her cry harder.

"No," she whimpered. "He was one of the good guys. The best."

She smiled through her tears.

"But his life was very sad. He was a rogue, just like me. But he protected me. We hid in one of the caves and stayed there until the others left. That's when we felt our mate bond,” she smiled briefly when recalling meeting her mate.

"We were so happy together. The first few months were amazing. He would go out, work hard, and bring me food. For a while, I thought that was what life would always be like."

Her voice suddenly hardened as her gaze drifted to the window.

“He was even building a cabin on the rooftop.” Her smile faded.

"Until what?" I asked, reaching for her hand.

Her entire body trembled.

"Until that full moon night. People found out I was hiding in the cave, and they came for me. Your father was there. He tried to fight them, and during the struggle, he accidentally pushed an Alpha's Luna. She had come to take me for her brother."

My mother's expression crumpled.

"That was the saddest part. There were women involved too."

Her voice broke. A small hiccup escaped her lips before she continued.

I froze at her words.

"Rage consumed everyone. They dragged your father out, tied him to a pole, and gathered the remaining seers. They cursed him."

Her voice dropped to a whisper.

"And then they fed him the forbidden cursed herb."

My mother had just mentioned something I hadn't heard about in a very long time.

It was a type of herb formed within one of the wells.

However, to create it, a painful curse had to be inflicted on other creatures as well.

Those people must have been consumed by vengeance to use such a curse on my father without considering the consequences.
