Karla:
I had been called to this huge mansion by some warriors to attend a meeting.
In fact, I had already been paid a generous amount just to come here. So why wouldn't I go?
I was Yuvonne’s mother, a mother-in-law of an alpha too.
I rushed to the location, and there stood a woman named Rosetta.
She was a widow. The Black Widow, in fact. The one who supposedly ate up her mates.
Her husband would just die. She was simply that unlucky.
"Wow, you have a beautiful mansion," I said, scooting to the edge of my seat and looking around excitedly, my purse clutched in my hands.
"I know what you're planning," she said.
I heard her voice and frowned slightly.
She had a very soft-spoken voice, something that felt familiar, but I was certain I had never met her before.
It was also the way she looked, the way she rolled her eyes, and the way she carried herself. There was something familiar about her.
I must have met someone just like her before because I was certain I had never met her in my life.
"About what?" I asked in confusion.
"Lady Eugenia is my mother," she replied.
I nodded, but my heart immediately started pounding in my chest.
I had so many questions, but I had learned one thing, never question Lady Eugenia.
"I'll pay you double. And I'll save your life and your daughter's too."
Once she said that, I frowned in confusion. I didn't know that either I or my daughter needed saving. What the heck was she talking about?
"So it would be kind of you to start speaking yourself," she said dramatically, holding a wine glass filled with red wine.
I was going to play even more clueless, but one of her warriors walked in and threw something onto the table. It scattered everywhere.
Diamonds.
"Are these all real?" I asked.
When she nodded, I took that as permission to touch them. I started running my fingers over every single one of them, and oh, Goddess, they felt amazing.
"Now, start speaking," she uttered.
And of course, why wouldn't I? I had one weakness.
Money.
Wealth.
"Your mother wants me to convince Yuvonne that Madeline has never forgiven her. She also wants me to spread poison in Byron's ear and in the ears of anyone trying to help Madeline," I explained while examining the diamonds one by one.
I arranged them into neat rows, making different patterns across the table.
"What else?" she insisted, her voice more commanding than ever.
"And she wants me to help her get the kids. Steal them. At least Bodhi."
The moment I said that, I looked up and noticed her scoff.
"You're a fool."
As soon as those words left her mouth, my heart flipped inside my chest.
I knew better than to trust Lady Eugenia. She had dragged my daughter into trouble once before.
Now I was worried.
What the fuck was she up to this time?
