Nala:
I was still processing everything when I noticed Mathew had walked behind my chair and started untying me.
"We need to go stop him," Mathew said, freeing me.
We both grabbed our phones and tried calling Ron for what felt like the hundredth time, but he didn't answer.
I left him countless messages, but after our first few calls, he had turned off his phone, so none of them went through.
Mathew and I rushed out of the cabin and sprinted as fast as we could.
I called my warriors, but they weren't at the cabin or anywhere nearby.
They had left with Madeline to search the area.
Everything was becoming a complete mess.
When we finally arrived at the cabin, my heart sank when I didn't see the monster in the tree.
I stormed inside and found Ron sitting on the couch with his elbows resting on his knees and his head lowered.
"Please tell me you didn't do it," I said.
There was a genuinely soft look on his face as he lifted his gaze to me, then to Mathew.
A frown soon creased his forehead, possibly because I was free even though he hadn't told Mathew to release me yet.
"We had something important to tell you."
Without waiting to be questioned, Mathew explained why I was out and about.
Ron only tilted his head in response, as if to say he was listening.
"You have to tell us first. You didn't do it right. You didn't feed anyone that herb," Mathew urged.
My heart pounded even harder when I realized he wasn't planning to do it only to Eugenia. Maybe he really was considering other alternatives.
"I mean, you don't even know where Lady Eugenia is, right?" Mathew continued while Ron silently watched him.
"Come on, fucking say something. Just tell me. Do you know where she is, bro?" Mathew pressed.
By this point, I could tell we were getting far too agitated as Ron continued to watch us in silence without saying another word.
He slowly pulled something out of his pocket and placed it on the table.
"I grabbed the herb," he muttered. "But I couldn't do it. I couldn't feed it to Graham. I couldn't feed it to Lady Eugenia. I just—I don't think I want to do it."
Relief washed over Mathew and me as we both let out a deep breath.
