Now that we had talked about everything, we sat down with my mother because, well, she wanted to prepare food for me.

And this would be the first time I'd be able to tell everyone that I was eating my mother's cooking.

I felt so content.

Then there was my husband, who had to finish talking about everything important before his wolf woke up.

But it would be hours before that happened because Baxter had taken quite a lot of medicine.

Our plan was to tell him that after Baxter accidentally took on wolfsbane, he'd taken a lot of medicine.

Not only his wolf, but Baxter himself had fallen asleep as well.

So I wasn't sure how he was going to manage that.

"So the humans are coming tomorrow?" my mother asked as she started setting plates in front of us.

"Yes, Mother. And we'll get to speak with them about our son," I said. "You should meet your grandchildren. They're so adorable."

I practically purred like a kitten at the thought of my children having a genuine connection with one of their grandmothers who wasn't a bitch.

"So, you must have seen the names. Who's coming? Do you know any of them?" Livia asked me as she served me pasta.

For a brief second, I just stared at her because I knew what I was going to do with Daniel would be a little brutal.

She would be so upset when she found out that I hadn't told her I was only flirting with Daniel.

But at the same time, sometimes a person needs a little push.

I didn't want her to make the same mistakes I had made when I couldn't confess my feelings to the person I loved at the right time.

"Oh, yeah. They didn't give us the names, but they said an alpha and his luna are coming over," Baxter told her and Livia nodded.

"Well, it's so weird that I'm friends with—that I'm family with the Alpha King. I mean, he's my brother-in-law," Livia said, cupping her face in her hands and making both Baxter and me laugh.

"Anyway, do you have any idea who it could be?" Baxter asked me while appreciating my mother's cooking at the same time.

Honestly, my mother was amazing. She was anything like Lady Eugenia or my adoptive mother.

My mother was kind.

"I'm not sure," I replied to Baxter.

"She was my adopted sister," I mumbled.

"Anyway, whoever it is, I hope they were picked by Rosetta," I said.

The minute I said her name, something hit me.

Why hadn't I spoken about her or even thought about her?

Because, well, wasn't it obvious that there was something special about her?

"You seem to be lost in a lot of thoughts, so tell me, what are you thinking about now?" Baxter asked, elbowing me playfully as he held out a bite for me, his other hand underneath it so he wouldn't spill anything on my shirt.

I accepted the bite, giving him a smile before taking his hand and lowering it.

"So, there was this woman I met, Rosetta," I commented.

Everyone nodded except my mother. Livia and Baxter already knew about Rosetta and how she'd helped me.

"You know, people say–" I paused, nervously tapping my foot against the floor. "She looks an awful lot like me, even more than Livia and I look alike."

The minute I said that, my mother's spoon stopped midway to her mouth.

She lifted her head, and our eyes met as if we were speaking the same silent language.
