Adopted to Biological? Keep Your Golden Child Scapegoat Out novel Chapter 19

Chapter 9

Kaelan flipped through the pages one by one, his expression growing darker with every line.

When he reached the section that read “Betsy Morris’s parents have long passed away. The so-called ‘forced marriage by family’ was a complete fabrication,” he finally snapped.

He lunged forward and slapped her hard across the face.

“You lied to me! Because of your lies, I scolded Avelaine and even pushed her down!”

Kaelan gritted his teeth, his eyes filled with disgust.

“From today on, you’re reassigned. Don’t ever appear in front of me again.”

Betsy collapsed to the ground, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth. But her eyes gleamed with madness.

“Avelaine Campbell-you’ve already got a new man and you’re still not satisfied. You still want to keep Kaelan dangling. I won’t let you have your way!”

Three days before the wedding, Frederic and I went to the quartermaster’s office for our final dress fitting.

When I stepped out of the dressing room in my wedding gown, wearing Frederic’s First Class Merit Medal on my shoulder, the staff gasped in awe.

“Dr. Campbell, you and Frederic are a perfect match!”

I looked at myself in the mirror, my fingers lightly brushing over the medal, suddenly feeling a little dazed.

Five years ago, when I first returned from Africa, I thought Kaelan and I would marry soon.

I’d eagerly dragged him here to get measured.

Back then, every time I tried on a dress, I was filled with anticipation.

But whenever I suggested Kaelan get fitted for a tuxedo too, he’d always say:

“We can do that once the wedding date is set.”

Now I finally understood. It wasn’t that the date wasn’t set. Kaelah never intended to marry me at all.

“What are you thinking about?”

Frederic walked over and gently adjusted my collar pin. “This one really suits you.”

Chapter 9

I snapped back to reality and smiled at him.

“Nothing. I was just thinking I’m lucky to have you.”

With him by my side, I could finally look forward to a wedding again and finally leave the shadows of the past behind.

After confirming the final alterations, we left arm in arm.

Once our figures disappeared, Betsy emerged from behind a wall, her eyes brimming with venomous jealousy.

She muttered bitterly under her breath.

“Why does your life go so smoothly? Kaelan can’t let you go, and now Frederic Spencer-such a good man-loves you too. Avelaine Campbell, you won’t be happy forever.”

On the wedding day, I arrived early at the military district hall’s lounge.

My mother sat beside me, watching as I got my makeup done. Tears glistened at the corners of her eyes.

“Time really flies. You were so little back then, and now you’re getting married. At least you’re marrying into Virginia-close to

home.”

I knew Mom was still heartbroken over what I had suffered before, so I smiled and changed the subject.

“Mom, can you go to Frederic’s lounge and grab my bouquet? I forgot to bring it over.”

She didn’t think much of it and left.

The lounge became quiet with only me inside.

I looked at myself in the mirror, a soft smile on my lips.

Just then, the door suddenly opened. Thinking it was my mother, I turned around with a smile-

But I froze instantly.

A cold military knife was pressed against my throat.

“Avelaine Campbell, how could you not invite an old comrade like me to such a big event?”

Betsy’s voice slithered out like a venomous snake-cold and grating.

She applied slight pressure, and a red line appeared on my neck.

“Betsy, what are you doing?” I forced myself to stay calm, trying not to provoke her.

“What am I doing?” Betsy’s emotions suddenly flared.
