Natalie looked up at him.
Jordan brushed his fingers over her cheek. The swelling was gone.
“Let’s skip the drinks. Let’s just go home and pretend everything’s normal, like nothing even happened.”
She hesitated, her voice dropping. “If you have some time this week, could you make some of that soup? Bring me some, and maybe bring a bowl for Ethan too. It might help get him back on our side, like before, when he’d always have our backs.”
Natalie bit her lip. “But if I show up with soup for him, people might start rumors. They’ll say I’m having an affair.”
Jordan smiled at her softly. “Then I’ll make the soup and give it to you. You can take it to Ethan. That way, nobody can say anything about you.”
She let out a small sigh. “Even if you trust me, if people keep talking, those rumors will get to you. You always say you’re fine, but anytime Ethan’s nice to me, you get a little jealous, don’t you?”
He pulled her into his arms, holding her close. “Of course I get jealous. It’s hard not to when someone treats you that well. But because it’s Ethan, I trust you both.”
Jordan’s voice was gentle. “He’s got his own sense of right and wrong. Even if he has feelings for you, he buried them the moment I told you how I felt. He’s never crossed a line.”
“Honestly, even if you tried to flirt with him, he wouldn’t touch you. He cares about you too much to mess up our marriage, or your happiness. With stuff like that, he’s a total gentleman.”
Jordan laughed quietly. “The only reason I get jealous is because his family’s got more money than mine. He’s better looking too.”
“But in the end, I’m the one who married you. If anyone should be jealous, it’s Ethan, not me.”
