After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 474

“Hey, Douglas.”

Douglas nodded. “Linda’s been trying to set you up with my brothers. Please don’t take it too seriously. She means well, but you don’t have to pay any attention to it.”

Laura couldn’t help but feel a little awkward. She and Isabella had both been caught off guard by Linda’s matchmaking speech that day, but honestly, they hadn’t thought much about it since. She never expected Douglas to come all the way here just for this.

Seeing the look on Laura’s face, Douglas went on, “You might think I didn’t need to come by in person, but you don’t really know Linda. Once she gets an idea in her head, she’ll do anything to make it happen. She’s relentless when it comes to matchmaking.”

He glanced at Isabella’s hospital room. “I figured I could use Isabella’s hospitalization as an excuse to visit without attracting too much attention. If I came by under normal circumstances, it’d just be weird.”

Laura gave a small, embarrassed laugh. “Linda just worries about you guys. She wants the best for you.”

Fifteen brothers, all single. If Laura were in Linda’s shoes, she’d probably be the same way.

Douglas shook his head, but there was no trace of blame. “Laura, I already like someone. If Linda brings this up again, just let her know.”

Laura nodded right away. She couldn’t help but ask, “If you already like someone, why not tell Linda? If she knew, she wouldn’t be so stressed about your love life, and she wouldn’t keep bringing it up to us.”

Douglas didn’t say anything.

Laura realized he wasn’t about to spill any details. She decided it was better not to push.

He set down a fruit basket. “This is for Mrs. Adams. Tell her to rest and get better. Linda will come by after work. Sorry for dropping in like this. I have some things to take care of, so I’ll get going.”

He motioned for his bodyguards to take the fruit basket to the room, then he left just as quickly as he’d arrived. The whole encounter had barely lasted three minutes.

Laura’s eyes went wide. “You don’t think he’s like Ethan, secretly in love with a married woman, do you?”

“I doubt it. Douglas isn’t the type to fall for someone who’s taken. Or maybe he’s into his rival, and he can’t say anything because their families can’t stand each other?”

Laura grinned. “I’ve always wanted to write a storyline like that, but I can never get it right. It’s great for side characters, but it never works when I try to make it the main plot.”

Isabella shook her head, a little amused. Laura really did think like a writer, always turning real life into story ideas.

Isabella let out a tired sigh. “I’m going to nap for a bit.”

“Go ahead. I’ll stay here and keep an eye on you. I’ll just watch some of our web series. I’ve rewatched all of them a million times. I really hope the new one that’s about to drop becomes a hit and finally brings in some real money.”
