Natalie knocked on Ethan’s door for what felt like forever, but he didn’t wake up. In the end, she just sighed and gave up, heading back downstairs.
When Susan spotted her coming down with a frustrated look, she didn’t even have to ask. Clearly, Ethan was still out cold.
That was just how it was with Ethan. His room was huge, and if he was sleeping deeply, good luck waking him up by knocking. Unless you called his phone.
Natalie had tried that too, twice actually, but Ethan never picked up.
“He’s completely out. Didn’t even hear me at the door,” Natalie muttered.
She turned to Susan. “You can just pour the soup back into the pot. I have to get going.”
She grabbed her bag from the sofa, slung it over her shoulder, and gave Susan a few more instructions before heading out. Susan walked her to the door and stood there, watching as Natalie drove off before heading back inside.

Natalie wasn’t in the best mood. As soon as she got in the car, she called Jordan.
When he picked up, she didn’t waste any time. “Jordan, Isabella got into some trouble, so I came over to check on things. But Ethan was so cold to me, like he couldn’t care less. He seemed really annoyed.”
“He’s pulling away from us,” she complained. “Isabella must have some serious skills. They’ve only been married a few months and she’s already managed to take Ethan away from all of us. We grew up together, you know?”
No matter how she tried to explain it, Natalie just couldn’t accept that Ethan, who’d always spoiled her, was now putting Isabella first.
Jordan tried to calm her down. “Isabella got hurt and Ethan spent over ten hours at the hospital with her. He’s exhausted, Nat. It’s not that he’s angry at you, he just needs to rest. Give him a break.”
“We’ve all been friends for years, and Ethan’s loyal. Trust me, he’s not going to cut us off. But you should be careful. If Ethan can get targeted, so can we. Make sure you bring your bodyguards when you go out.”
