Ethan nodded. “Alright. I’ll go tomorrow.”
Stephanie glanced up. “What’s tomorrow’s date? Let me check if it’s a good day for prayers.” She pulled out her phone, then reached under the coffee table for her gold-rimmed glasses. After slipping them on, she scrolled through her calendar. “Looks like tomorrow works. You should go, but keep it low-key. If the paparazzi get wind of it, we’ll be flooded with headlines. That’s the last thing you need right now.”
Ethan let out a breath. “I know. Grandma, after that dream, I don’t want to divorce Isabella anymore. But I already promised her we’d do it once she recovers and is out of the hospital.”
He paused, worry flickering in his eyes. “I’m scared that if we go through with it, she’ll end up just like in my dream.”
“I’ve arranged for bodyguards to stay with her. No matter what the dream means, I’ll keep her safe. I won’t let anything like that happen to her.”
Stephanie considered this, her voice gentle but firm. “Did Isabella ever mention that those dreams could be memories from your past lives together?”
She set her phone down, frowning. “It just doesn’t make sense. She doesn’t have enemies. Who would hurt her like that? Her dad’s family only cares about money. They’d never dare go that far.”
“Paul only came to see her once, then disappeared. Even then, you warned the George family to stay away.”
She looked at Ethan, her tone serious. “About the divorce… you made her a promise. You need to keep it. She already barely trusts you. Don’t make it worse.”
“You say you want to call off the divorce to protect her, but honestly, it sounds more like guilt. You’re scared she’ll end up dead if you go through with it. That’s not love. It’s just guilt.”
Stephanie looked Ethan straight in the eye. “Honestly, other than Natalie, who else could it be?”
Ethan almost jumped in to defend Natalie, but the words stuck in his throat.
Isabella had always been kind to everyone. She wasn’t the kind of person to make enemies left and right. The only people who ever really disliked her were his mom, Sophia, and Natalie.
But his mother and Sophia would never go that far. If they ever wanted to hurt Isabella, they would have done it before the wedding to stop him from marrying her.
