“Okay, just come over if you’re free. If not, I’ll swing by your office this afternoon.”

Frank paused for a second, then said, “Ethan, I’ve got a lunch meeting today, so it’s not the best time. Why don’t you come by my office later? I’ll be there waiting.”

“Alright.”

Ethan ended the call.

Not wasting a moment, Frank dialed Jeremy.

“Jeremy.”

Jeremy picked up right away. Frank asked, sounding unsure, “Is Ethan in a bad mood today?”

“When has he ever been in a good mood since the divorce?”

“He called you too?”

“Yeah, wanted to have lunch. I told him I’ve got a meeting, so to come by in the afternoon. I wanted to check with you. Any idea what he wants? I’ve got a weird feeling about this.”

Jeremy replied, “Ethan’s lost all interest in the business lately. He dumps everything on me, doesn’t matter if it’s big or small. All he cares about now is winning Isabella back.”

They both fell quiet for a moment. Frank let out a sigh. “If only he’d seen this coming.”

“If it’s not business, it’s got to be about Isabella. I really can’t help him with that. I just hope he doesn’t ask me for something impossible.”

“Yeah, it’s definitely about Isabella,” Jeremy agreed. “He doesn’t care about anything else these days.”

“Harold’s going after Isabella hard, and Ethan’s already lost his edge. Honestly, I can’t even imagine what’ll happen if Isabella actually marries Harold.”

“He’ll probably end up like he did with Natalie, just watching over her from a distance for the rest of his life.”

Jeremy shook his head. “It’s not the same. He never really had Natalie, but he did have Isabella. That’s a different kind of pain. To lose someone you loved, because of your own mistakes, and then have to watch her marry your friend…”

“That kind of heartbreak is brutal. Ethan’s love life is a complete mess. We should learn from all this. Never fake a marriage, and never mess around with someone’s feelings.”

Frank laughed. “Jeremy, are you seeing someone?”

Only Natalie and her mom were at the dining table. Natalie’s dad and brothers were always working and hardly ever made it home for dinner.

Adelina put some food on Natalie’s plate and said, “Natalie, you’ve lost so much weight lately. You really need to eat more.”

“Your health comes first.”

“And don’t keep thinking about all the bad stuff.”

Natalie had convinced Sophia to drug Isabella, but things hadn’t gone as planned. Even though Ethan stood up for Sophia and Natalie, both of them still ended up being detained for two weeks.

For Natalie, it was a huge blow.

Adelina knew that since Natalie got out, she’d been in a terrible mood, barely eating, looking thinner every day.

At first, Adelina didn’t blame Isabella. When Natalie took Isabella’s wedding gift, Adelina had scolded her daughter pretty harshly.

But after everything that happened, her heart softened toward Natalie. She started to resent Isabella for not being more forgiving. Isabella had grown up with the Lane family after all, and Natalie was her sister-in-law.
