Even in Darktras, Shi Chose to Rise
Chapter 623 The Price of Salvaging
A heavy bang echoed through the night.
The cabin door slammed shut.
A sharp gunshot pierced the air.
The bullet tore directly through the wolf’s skull, and the beast crumpled into the dirt.

Lucas was hyperventilating, his survival instincts screaming at him to throw the door open again. But before he could even extend his arm, a sea of passengers swarmed over him, pinning him down under their collective weight until he was completely unable to move a muscle.
“Let go of me! Slide the door open! Open the damn door!”
Lucas roared with an agonizing, raw desperation, but his pleas were completely futile.
The clergyman was already projecting his voice over the panic, chanting his dynamic rhetoric. “She has taken the lives of far too many creatures! It is a profound sin, one that cannot be pardoned! She must answer for her own transgressions! We cannot open that door under any circumstances! We will all perish right here!”
“The priest is entirely right! This is her destiny!”
“Drive the tram! The vehicle is working now! Let’s get out of here, hurry!”
Someone with quick reflexes had already scrambled into the driver’s cabin, throwing the ignition into gear.
The mini tram finally lurched forward, gaining momentum.
A collective cheer erupted from the passengers.
Not a single soul cared that the very woman who had just salvaged all their lives was now abandoned outside on the ground.
Lucas was pinned so securely that his struggles yielded nothing. He turned his eyes toward Jack, his gaze filled with a desperate, unspoken plea.
Jack made a motion to step forward, but his wife immediately wrapped her arms around his torso with a vice-like grip, weeping violently as she shook her head. Their two children huddled closely against their sides, trembling uncontrollably.
Ultimately, Jack remained frozen in place. He averted his eyes from Lucas, his face a mask of intense guil
and remorse.
His family was right here with him; he simply couldn’t afford to take even a fraction of a percent of a risk. A profound sense of disappointment washed over Lucas. He struggled against his captors like a man possessed, but a sudden, violent spasm of agony tore through his brain, ripping at his consciousness.

Outside Tammy watched the steel door remain firmly shot without the slightest intention of reopening, She untered a fierce curse under her breath, though, the betrayal didn’t entirely surprise her.
With a fluid pivot of her body, she grabbed onto the exterior structural support and vaulted herself onto the roof of the tram.
As the vehicle accelerated, she dropped into a low crouch to maintain her center of gravity.
The firearm in her hand had long since run completely out of ammunition, turning into a useless piece of metal. She cast it aside without hesitation, drawing the twin daggers she always kept securely hidden against her person.
The wolf pack had absolutely no intention of letting their secured prey slip away. They began leaping onto the roof from the surrounding brush in a relentless assault.
But what awaited them wasn’t a feast; it was a lethal execution.
The rims of Tammy’s eyes flushed a brilliant crimson as she succumbed to the raw adrenaline of battle.
Her daggers were exceptionally sharp, slicing effortlessly through the wolves’ hides. Organs and blood sprayed across the metal roof, drenching her clothing in a thick scent of copper.
The heavy aroma of fresh blood only served to arouse the surrounding predators further, and they began to converge on the moving tram like a frenzied wave.
Outside the perimeter of the wildlife park, a convoy of off-road vehicles ground to a halt.
Norman vaulted down from the lead vehicle, his gaze piercing and sharp. “Are they inside?”
Under the cover of night, the entire zoo appeared completely deserted, projecting an incredibly eerie atmosphere.
Without a second of delay, Norman gestured to his men and strode inside with rapid steps.
The distant, haunting echoes of wolf howls rippled through the air.
A sudden, unfamiliar trace of unease surfaced in the depths of his chest.
Tammy gasped for air, the muscles in her arms aching with a heavy, leaden exhaustion. Yet, the hands gripping her daggers never once faltered, continuing to deliver one lethal slash after another.
The relentless onslaught finally forced the wolf pack into a temporary retreat.
The mini tram continued to lumber forward, though it was entirely incapable of gaining high speed.
The passengers inside couldn’t see the carnage unfolding above their heads, but they could see thick streams of dark blood cascading down the windows, accompanied by the heavy thuds of wolf carcasses hitting the dirt.

The sight was utterly terrifying.

Even the clergyman was driven to his Kures, frantically reciting his prayers, his lips trembling as he mumbled, “A demon… she is a demon….
The absolute terror of being surrounded by wild beasts, interwoven with the profound shock of witnessing that woman’s ferocious combat capabilities, left the crowd entirely paralyzed. For a brief moment, they completely forgot about pinning Lucas down
Seizing the opportunity, Lucas violently threw the passengers off him, lunged toward the threshold, and slammed the door open.
“Tammy!”
Tammy reacted in the blink of an eye, dropping down from the roof and vaulting straight through the open doorway. As she cleared the ledge, she drove one of her daggers cleanly through the skull of a pursuing wolf that had tried to follow her inside.
With a heavy thud, the door slammed shut once more.
The passengers who had wanted to prevent Lucas from opening the door were far too late; they could only watch in stunned silence as the blood-drenched woman stepped into the cabin.
Tammy rotated her aching wrists, her ice-cold gaze sweeping across the entire crowd.
Wherever her eyes landed, not a single person dared to meet her gaze.
She had just emerged from a literal bloodbath against a horde of predators, and the raw, unbridled ferocity still lingering in her eyes was exceptionally intimidating.
As she stood there, the blood coating her clothes dripped steadily onto the floor, leaving a series of dark stains.
It wasn’t her own blood; it belonged to the beasts outside.
There were far too many to count.
She had killed until she was completely numb.
Terrified that she might have sustained an injury, Lucas stepped forward in a panic, his voice laced with deep concern. “Tammy…”
Before he could finish his sentence, she raised a hand and patted his chest lightly, leaving a vivid, crimson palm print on his shirt.
The meaning was entirely clear.
Lucas wisely shut his mouth and stepped back.
She began to walk slowly toward the group of tourists.
With every step she took forward, the crowd retreated a step backward.
