Her business skills were all shaped by Jasper’s guidance. Naturally, she carried traces of his methods and style.

Liam’s casual expression slowly shifted into full focus.

She never failed to catch him off guard, every single time he thought he’d figured her out completely.

“Jasper! Get over here! Isn’t that the girl from last time?”

A lackey leaning over the balcony shouted at the top of his lungs.

Jasper had pulled all-nighters for days straight and leaned back on the sofa with his eyes shut to rest. The racket jolted him awake, bloodshot eyes fluttering open.

“This better be worth waking me for.”

The lackey instantly cowered, pointing timidly, “Just come take a look, Jasper! I swear I didn’t misidentify her!”

Jasper massaged his throbbing temples, dark purple under-eyes marking his endless exhaustion. But when he stepped to the balcony rail and followed the lackey’s line of sight, his formerly lazy gaze froze solid.

A man and a woman sat across the street at the café. Dressed in plain casual wear, their striking good looks still made them stick out like a sore thumb against their surroundings.

He was handsome, she breathtakingly beautiful. The way the man stared at his companion brimmed with unhidden fondness and delight—a primal possessiveness any man would recognize.

The first telltale sign a man fell for a woman was that surge of possessive hunger.

And the woman sitting opposite him had every quality to drive a man to the brink of obsession.

It was Tatiana.

The lackey kept chattering obliviously beside him, “That guy’s definitely trying to hit on her! Who could resist a face that gorgeous? Are they out on a date?”

Another crew member scoffed, “Use your brain. Who picks a dump like this for a date? Does he think this place smells good or something?”

Jasper stood rooted, watching the pair, his hanging hands clenching tighter and tighter.

Tatiana felt an intense weight of eyes boring into her back. She turned her head on instinct, only catching a fleeting shadow vanishing from the balcony of the building across the road.

She stared blankly in that direction.

“What’s wrong?”

She snapped back to reality, “Nothing.”

Liam glanced at his watch, “We should head back soon.”

“Alright.”

The two stood to leave. Halfway to the door, she made an excuse to use the restroom, telling Liam to wait for her while she headed toward the public washrooms nearby.

The second she stepped inside, a thick, foul stench washed over her, yet she washed her hand without a single flinch.

A figure slipped silently through the window and crept closer.

Tatiana spotted the man in the mirror. The faint glimmer of hope in her eyes died, replaced b unbridled revulsion.

This intruder wasn’t the person she’d been waiting for-just some sleazy creep in a loud floral shirt.

“Hey, girl, wanna come have some fun with me? I’ve got all kinds of good stuff you’ll love.”

Tatiana’s features turned icy as she moved to step past him.

Behind her back, her fingers curled tight around a tiny syringe.

It was no thicker than her pinky finger, but the liquid inside held enough sedative to knock an elephant unconscious.

The thug paid no mind to the looming danger, convinced a woman this stunning was nothing more than a delicate flower ripe for the plucking.

“I’ve had my eyes on you since you walked in. You’re way prettier than any girl hanging around this joint. Think that boy outside can really satisfy you? Wanna try something wild with me instead?”

In a place like this, extraordinary beauty was no blessing-it only drew lecherous predators.

Tatiana flashed a bright, honeyed smile, “What kind of fun did you have in mind?”

The thug was completely blinded by that grin and lunged forward eagerly, “Pretty girl, let n get a taste of those lips!”

Just as Tatiana raised the syringe to drive it into his arm, the thug’s eyes rolled back and he crumpled to the ground.

Standing behind the unconscious man, silhouetted against the light, was another figure.

Tatiana loosened her grip on the syringe.

“You finally showed yourself.”

This time, she met Jasper finally.

It was their first real encounter since everything had fallen apart between them.

It had only been two months, yet it felt like an eternity stretching on forever.

The passage of time left her dizzy and disoriented.

“Do you have any idea what kind of neighborhood this is? You wander around alone with zer bodyguards-you’re a walking target, everyone’s waiting to sink their teeth into you!”

His words crackled with raw anger, dousing her like a bucket of ice cold water that seeped straight to her bones.

The faint, automatic smile tugging at her lips slowly faded away.

“Is that all you came here to say to me?”

Jasper pressed his lips thin, suddenly aware how harsh his tone sounded. He fought to tamp down the overwhelming flood of terror and longing swirling inside him, his voice rough and strained, “Leave. Get out of this place now.”

“Who do you think you are to order me around, Jasper?”

He stepped slowly closer, lifting a hand as if reaching out to touch her.

The second his fingers were about to brush her skin, she lurched backward and evaded him entirely.

The motion was an unspoken rejection.
