Against Cruelty, She Grew Strong (by Anastasia Glover) novel Chapter 664

Chapter 664 Ambush In The Crowd

“Tammy—you go first. I’m the one they’re after.”

Lucas wanted to shove her away and face them alone.

Tammy rolled her eyes, “What—leave you here to die? I can’t do that.”

“But—”

“Shut it. You don’t have much time left anyway. If you’re going to die, I’m the one doing it—got it?”

Lucas shut up.

The two weaved through the bustle of the street market, shadows still trailing them.

Tammy’s face hardened, “These ones are different—more professional.”

And not just a little.

Her alarm bells were ringing even louder.

“Stay close.”

Lucas’s energy was shot—the chemo had drained him. But he pushed through, determined not to slow her down.

Tammy had been fixated on what was behind them—she’d forgotten to check on him until he almost tripped.

“Sorry—I was going too fast…”

She cut herself off when she saw his face.

He was white as a sheet, drenched in cold sweat, breathing in ragged gasps. You could practically see the word “dying” stamped on his forehead.

He forced a weak smile, “I’m fine—keep going.”

Tammy swore sharply, “Bullshit! If we keep going, you’ll be done for. Come with me!”

She swerved into a department store.

“What are we doing?”

“Just shut up and follow me.”

Tammy quickly grabbed an armful of clothes and shoved them at Lucas.

The expensive suit came off and went straight into the trash.

He was now in a frumpy, old-fashioned outfit complete with an old man’s wig and a walking cane.

“You wait here. I’ll draw them away.”

“Tammy!”

“Don’t argue—you slow me down. I can handle them alone.”

Lucas couldn’t argue. He swallowed his protests.

In his disguise, he’d gone from a young gentleman to a scruffy old grandpa—and he blended right in with the other old folks sitting around.

Tammy took off, deliberately drawing the chase after her.

Lucas’s heart was in his throat.

Soon, he spotted them—

searching the area.

One of them was walking straight toward him.

Drawing closer and closer…

Lucas’s mind raced. What would happen to Tammy if he died?

Maybe she’d finally be free.

No more playing fake couple with a dying man.

At least he’d found that ten percent share certificate from his deadbeat father, plus the ones he’d managed to grab.

Cash them out, and Tammy would never have to worry about money.

Even though she was already rich enough that she didn’t need it.

But it was the only thing he had to give.

He had poison in his pocket. If they took him, he’d rather swallow it than be used against her.

Then—a tap on his shoulder.

He turned and stared into a pair of vicious eyes.

His fingers closed around the poison.

But just as he was about to take it, the man turned and walked away.
