“Nick. Fucking answer!” Shit, I forgot that Will was linking me. “What do you want?” He laughs making my head rattle and I just wanna punch him. “Oh, I see someone is extra grumpy today. Where the fuck are you? I’ve been banging on your door for ages.” Great! “I’m in my office, ended up falling asleep in here.”
Within ten minutes I’m showered and dressed ready for breakfast. Honestly, right now eating is the last thing I want to do but I have to at least show my face and I can’t appear hungover. Thankfully mouthwash, toothpaste, and lots of aftershaves should be enough to stop me from smelling like a brewery, and hopefully, these painkillers will start kicking in soon because my head is fucking banging. “Nick, where are you?” Shane’s voice pounds through my head and the edge to his tone instantly has me worried.
“I’m in my office. What’s wrong?” I sit in my seat while I wait to hear from him and gently rub my temples. This is why I don’t drink. because an Alpha is never of duty, there’s never time to nurse a hangover because there’s always someone who wants something. A loud bang on my office door makes me wince but then Shane, Lily, and Will all come storming into the room looking panicked. “What’s happened?” The look on Shane’s face alone is enough to have my mind going into overdrive but the look on Lily’s face has me quickly shifting my ass out of my chair.
I sit my tired ass on the edge of my desk while I dread what they are about to say. “What’s happened?” I growl. I’m in no fit state for any more bullshit right now. “We can’t find Bonnie anywhere!” Lily practically shouts. What did she just say? “Say that again?” The look on her face alone tells me that what I think she said is right and the tears that she’s trying to hold in show how worried she is. “We can’t find Bonnie anywhere. I’ve been looking for her for the past hour.” Fuck!
“Maybe she has slept in?” Wishful thinking I know. “I went to her room and only her sister was there.”
“Where have you looked for her?” Her shoulders sag while she lets out a puff of air. “Everywhere I can think of. The only place she should be is her room or the breakfast hall but she wouldn’t go there alone. I’ve even tried linking her but there’s no answer and she never blocks her link. Never!” The more worried she becomes the more I feel on edge. Granted Aside from knowing that my mate has a kind heart I don’t know a great deal about her but Lily knows every detail about her and if she is worried then so am I.
“Could she be somewhere with her family?” The look of disgust on her face instantly has alarm bells ringing in my head. “No, she won’t be with them.” Her words are minimal and yet, say so much. There’s more that she’s not saying and I want to know what it is. “Alpha, will you please help me find her? I understand the situation that you have with Bonnie but I’m worried, really worried and I need your help.” Instantly I’m pissed at the fact that she would doubt that I would help her but then Storm kindly reminds me that so far all she knows about me is the fact that I’m rejecting her mate for no apparent reason which in turn just makes me look like an asshole.
“You are an asshole!” Storm growls. “Oh, fuck of furball. Now is not the time for this.” He’s right, I know he is but I don’t have time to have this conversation with him right now. My mate is missing and I need to find her. “Of course, I will help.” I give Will a nod as I rub my chest over my heart to try and ease the burning sensation that is there. “All available Warriors will be out front in 15 minutes to search the woods.”
As for our mate, well, I wasn’t expecting him not to want us. I know Bonnie already thought that but she’s been brainwashed by her family into believing that her mate wouldn’t want her. I’ve spent months telling her differently only for her mate to go and do that exact thing and up until last night I had nothing but hate for him but now, well, now I’m not too sure what to think.
Wolves are incredibly talented creatures but Alpha’s and their wolves are even more incredible. Everything about them is more advanced and they can do things that normal wolves can’t. Most wolves can only communicate with each other when their humans let them or when they are in wolf foam but it turns out that our wolf mate can communicate with me even when the Alpha is in human form and that’s what he did last night. He did not have long to talk to me because his human had blocked him out so it was harder to do but what he did tell me had me curious about our mate and why he didn’t want us.
“Lexi?” I spin around instantly on guard as I hear someone call my name and yet all I feel is relief when I see Lily slowly walking towards me. “Lexi. It’s okay.” I take a step towards her but jump back when I see our mate standing behind her and then I run just like our mate did not so long ago.
