Chapter 107
The silence between us lingered until Andy suddenly broke it with a sharp observation. “You’re a terrible liar,” he said, his voice low but firm. “Something’s clearly gnawing at you. What was that message about?”
I turned to study his face carefully, searching for any hint of deceit. If he truly was working against the Triads, maybe he could be an ally. But if not… well, I was already inside his car, already exposed.
“It was from Noah,” I finally confessed. “He’s a friend who’s been helping me dig into what happened to Fiona.”
Andy’s hands clenched tighter around the steering wheel, his knuckles paling. “And?”
“He managed to find an address for Fiona’s child. They’re apparently living in a cabin near the eastern border of Rocco’s territory.” I paused, gauging his reaction. “It’s in the same direction we’re headed.”
His face remained unreadable, but I noticed the subtle tension in his grip. “That’s… quite the coincidence.”
“Yeah.” I shifted in my seat, turning to face him more directly. “Noah’s on his way there now. He thinks the child might hold clues about my father.”
Andy’s voice dropped, cautious. “Do you trust him?”
I let out a bitter laugh, hollow and tinged with exhaustion. “I don’t know if I trust anyone anymore. But…” I hesitated, weighing my words. “Right now, I feel like you’re the only one I can trust. You’ve been there for me when no one else could—or would.”
The admission surprised me as much as it seemed to surprise him. His features softened just a little, a flicker of something unspoken passing between us.
“What’s running through your mind?” he asked quietly.
I stared out the window, watching the landscape blur into streaks of green and brown. “I’m tired of running without answers. If Fiona’s child really is there, maybe they know why all this is happening—why Fiona was killed, why I was targeted, why my father lies in a coma.”
