Chapter 160

Kira’s Perspective

A chill ran down my spine as I witnessed Red Mask’s transformation reach its terrifying conclusion. The very atmosphere around her thrummed with an overwhelming, untamed energy that made every hair on my arms rise involuntarily. Where moments before a cloaked figure had stood, now towered a colossal wolf, its fur pure white and seemingly alive—absorbing and reflecting the cavern’s eerie blue light in a way that felt almost otherworldly. This was no ordinary werewolf shift; it was something far older, far more sinister.

The enormous white wolf threw its head back and unleashed a howl that echoed through the cavern’s vast chamber, shaking the scattered ritual objects around the stone pool. The blue water rippled as if stirred by an invisible force, adding to the surreal and ominous scene.

“Holy shit,” I breathed out, tightening my grip on the silver blade in my hand, my heart pounding in my chest.

Before I could steady myself, the wolf lunged. I’d faced werewolves before—trained alongside Andy for three years—but this was unlike anything I’d ever encountered. The white wolf’s speed was blinding, a blur that closed the distance between us in an instant.

I raised my knife instinctively to block, but the sheer force of the wolf’s body crashing into mine sent me stumbling backward. A sharp pain shot through my arm, muscles going numb from the brutal impact. My boots slipped on the polished stone floor as I fought to keep my footing.

“Kira, left!” Andy’s voice rang out sharply.

I pivoted left, ducking and rolling just as massive jaws snapped shut where my neck had been a moment before. The wolf’s movements were fluid and precise—not the erratic thrashing of a wild beast, but the calculated strikes of a seasoned fighter.

I circled cautiously, knife poised defensively. The wolf stalked me, its eyes glowing with an unnatural intensity. There was intelligence behind that gaze, and a seething hatred so fierce it tightened my chest with dread.

This can’t be real. She’s too powerful. I’ve never felt a wolf’s strength like this.

I feinted to the right, then darted left, slashing wildly with my blade. The wolf twisted with impossible speed, my knife barely grazing its side. A handful of white hairs drifted to the ground—the only proof I’d made contact.

A low, guttural growl filled the chamber, seeming to come from all directions at once, and the wolf charged again. This time, I wasn’t fast enough to evade. It slammed into my side with crushing force, launching me into one of the stone pillars. The impact knocked the breath from my lungs, and my knife clattered to the floor, sliding just beyond my reach.

Gasping for air, my vision blurred with spots. Strategy, Kira. You can’t overpower her. Use your surroundings.
