Alpha's Regret After the Divorce by Christina novel Chapter 162

My mind struggled to make sense of the image before me. Those piercing blue eyes—identical to Rocco’s—stared back at me. The sharp, defined jawline was unmistakable. Though there were subtle differences, the bloodline was undeniable. Around us, the team held their positions, weapons locked on Lyra, ready to react instantly if she made any sudden move.

Blood seeped from the wound on her shoulder, staining the pristine white robe she wore, yet Lyra’s unsettling smile remained fixed. Her gaze never wavered from mine, as if she were savoring the confusion swirling in my eyes.

Finally, my voice emerged, rough and strained. “This can’t be real… Rocco told me you died ten years ago.”

Lyra grimaced as she slowly pushed herself into a sitting posture, her hand clutching her injured shoulder. The silver from my blade had prevented her wound from healing quickly, leaving her in clear pain, though she fought hard to conceal it.

“Death is such an easy thing to fake,” she said calmly, almost too composed. “All you need is the right body.”

A cold knot tightened in my stomach at the implication. “You used someone else’s body to fake your death?”

Her smile stretched a fraction wider, but she offered no reply.

“Rebecca,” I ordered without breaking eye contact with Lyra, “search the rest of the cave. Make sure there’s nothing else lurking in the shadows.”

Rebecca nodded sharply and signaled two team members to follow her deeper into the cavern. I kept my knife poised, though Lyra looked far too wounded to launch another attack.

“Why?” I demanded, trying to steady my voice despite the turmoil inside. “Why fake your death? Why target me? What is this all about?”

Tilting her head, Lyra studied me with a strange, haunting familiarity. “My almost–sister–in–law wants a story? How considerate of you.”

Despite myself, I felt a flicker of sympathy stir within me. But I pushed it aside, reminding myself that no amount of trauma could justify what she’d done.

“That still doesn’t explain why you’re trying to kill me,” I said, keeping my tone cold and steady.

Her eyes flashed with a dangerous light. “I’m getting there. Patience was never your strong suit, was it?”

Andy shifted uneasily, ready to step in, but I raised a hand to hold him back.

“I ran away when I was eight,” Lyra went on, bitterness creeping into her voice. “Tried to survive in the human world. Do you have any idea what happens to a lone wolf cub out there?” She didn’t wait for my answer. “When humans discovered what I was… I endured true hell.”
