Alpha's Regret After the Divorce by Christina novel Chapter 169

Kira’s POV

The blast hit with a force that sent me sprawling to the rocky floor. My ears throbbed with a high-pitched ringing as I struggled to push myself upright, hands trembling beneath me. A dense cloud of dust choked the air, swirling around in chaotic eddies. All around, the cave was crumbling—huge slabs of stone tore loose from the ceiling, crashing down with earth-shaking impacts that made the ground shudder beneath my feet.

Desperately, I searched the chaos for any sign of my team. Another massive boulder slammed down dangerously close, sending a fresh shower of debris. Through the thick haze, I caught a glimpse of Andy and the others, trapped on the far side of a rapidly growing mound of rubble. The cave’s collapse was accelerating, and time was running out.

“Andy!” I called out, my voice barely cutting through the roar of falling rock and rumbling earth.

My gaze flicked around the cavern until it settled on Rocco. He stood frozen, eyes fixed on the scorched patch where Lyra had vanished moments earlier. His expression was blank, stunned—completely unaware of the destruction closing in around him.

Leave him. After everything he’s done, he deserves whatever fate comes his way.

That bitter thought flashed through my mind, sharp and cold, before I cursed myself under my breath. No matter what Rocco had done, I couldn’t stand by and watch someone die like this.

Static crackled in my earpiece, then Andy’s voice broke through in broken fragments. “Kira… find other… exit… we’ll… south side… meet you…”

The connection cut out abruptly as another violent tremor shook the entire cavern. A deep fissure cracked open directly above Rocco’s head.

“Rocco!” I screamed, but he remained rooted to the spot, as if deaf to my words.

Without hesitation, I lunged toward him, dodging falling debris, grabbing his shoulders and shaking him fiercely. “Snap out of it! The whole cave is collapsing!”

His eyes stayed unfocused, distant, haunted. “Lyra… she just…”

“Listen to me,” I growled, giving him another hard shake. “We have seconds before we’re buried alive. Move!”

Still no response. Frustrated, I slapped him sharply across the face. The sharp smack echoed, cutting through the chaos.

Finally, his eyelids fluttered, and his gaze cleared, locking onto mine.

“Move or die,” I said with grim urgency, already scanning for any possible escape. “Your choice.”

Through the swirling dust, I spotted a narrow passage slanting upward along the far wall. It looked relatively intact. “There!” I pointed, grabbing Rocco’s sleeve and pulling him toward it. “This might lead outside!”

We slipped into the tight tunnel, forced to crouch low. Fine streams of dirt and pebbles trickled down from above—a grim warning that this path wouldn’t hold for long.
