Alpha's Regret After the Divorce by Christina novel Chapter 179

I ended the call, my chest tightening as my heart hammered fiercely against my ribs. Marcus’s urgent words still rang in my mind: “Sir, we have an emergency. Triad members are assembling at the western boundary, and unidentified figures are moving toward the mansion.”

I glanced over at Kira, who sat quietly on the couch. Her very presence stirred a storm inside me—both a deep ache and a flicker of joy I couldn’t fully express. After three long years of believing she was gone, mourning her loss, and enduring the sharp sting of grief… here she was. Alive. Breathing. Yet, when her eyes met mine, all I saw was cold disdain.

The weight of reality hit me hard, pressing down like a physical force. I had to leave immediately to confront the looming threat, but I couldn’t risk letting Kira slip away now—not after finally finding her again.

“I have to go,” I said, my voice rough and strained even to my own ears. “Don’t even think about running. The security system is fully active, and I won’t be gone long.”

She didn’t say a word in response, only fixed me with those once-familiar eyes that now held nothing but icy contempt. I paused for a moment longer, committing the sight of her—alive—to memory before turning away and heading toward the door.

As I strode toward the garage, my mind was a tangled mess of conflicting emotions. Kira was alive. Lyra was dead. Those words echoed relentlessly, swinging like a cruel pendulum between joy and heartbreak. My sister—my little sister, whom I had vowed to protect since childhood—was gone. I had witnessed her vanish in that violent explosion of energy, consumed by her own ambition and madness. Meanwhile, the mate I had mourned for three years sat in my living room, her wolf dead because of me.

How had I been so blind? So foolish? The plan I had devoted years to—the resurrection ritual—was now meaningless. There was nothing left to resurrect. Kira had been alive all along, suffering quietly from heartbreak brought on by my betrayal.

“I’ve ruined everything,” I whispered to myself as I reached the security control room. “Every last thing.”

Marcus and the security team were already there, their faces tight with tension. The monitors flashed multiple alerts—heat signatures and motion detected at two separate locations.

“Report,” I ordered, forcing myself back into the role of Alpha. There would be time for self-recrimination later.

“Sir, we have at least six Triad members at the northwest boundary,” Marcus said, pointing to the screen. “They’re not trying to breach, just gathering. And here,” he indicated the southeastern monitor, “three individuals moving cautiously through the forest, using the tree cover.”

I studied the second group’s movements carefully. “That’s Kira’s team,” I stated firmly. “Keep an eye on them, but do not engage. Under no circumstances are they to be harmed. Is that clear?”
