Alpha's Regret After the Divorce by Christina novel Chapter 186

Marcus hesitated, clearly caught off guard by the deeply personal nature of my question. For a few moments, he remained silent, as if weighing his words carefully before responding. “With all due respect, Alpha, I’m not convinced that trying to fix everything is the right goal here.”

I turned fully to face him, surprise flickering across my features. “You think I should just let her go?”

His gaze held a mixture of loyalty and candor. “Maybe the real question isn’t what you want, but what she truly needs.”

Those words lingered long after Marcus had left the room. He was right—I had been fixated solely on my own pain, my own desires, and the ache of loss. I hadn’t stopped to consider Kira’s wellbeing, what might be best for her, beyond my own selfish wishes.

“Is this my punishment?” I whispered to myself, standing before the towering window that stretched from floor to ceiling, my hands clenched tightly into fists. “To watch her walk away, just as she had to watch me betray her?”

Outside, the first light of dawn was beginning to creep over the horizon, softening the darkness. The sky shifted from deep indigo to pale hues of blue and gold. In that quiet moment, I understood something profound—sometimes, love means letting go. Perhaps the greatest gift I could give Kira was the freedom to leave.

Drawing a slow, steady breath, I made my choice. I would honor my promise to her. No more attempts to control her life, no matter how much it hurt or how much I feared losing her forever.

“Goodbye, Kira,” I murmured into the empty room, my voice barely audible. “Even if you never forgive me, I hope you find happiness.”

Leaving the study behind, I headed toward the main hall. Less than an hour remained before sunrise. I found the housekeeper already awake and gave her instructions to prepare some food for Kira to take with her on her journey.

“Have a car ready,” I told Dominic firmly. “Make sure it’s fueled up completely. She should be able to go wherever she wants without any obstacles.”

Dominic nodded silently, a flicker of something unreadable crossing his face, but he didn’t say a word.

Time seemed to drag as I stood by the window, watching the sky’s transformation from deep blue to soft lavender, then to shades of pink and gold. A mix of anticipation and dread churned inside me, the weight of the impending farewell pressing down heavily. I wasn’t sure how I would face the reality that this might be the last time I saw her.

Then I heard footsteps ascending the stairs. Turning around, I saw Kira standing at the top of the staircase. She was dressed simply, her expression calm but resolute. Our eyes met briefly, the space between us thick with unspoken goodbyes.

I noticed the determination in her gaze—no trace of hatred, just a quiet strength. It was almost more painful than anger. She began to descend the stairs slowly, her injured ankle causing a slight limp with each step.

“The car is ready,” I broke the silence, my voice steadier than I felt inside. “If you want, Dominic can drive you.”
