Alpha's Regret After the Divorce by Christina novel Chapter 222

Chapter 222

Kira’s POV

Our argument was cut short by a deafening roar overhead. I instinctively looked up, squinting against the sudden rush of air and debris that swept around us. A black helicopter hovered above, its rotors slicing through the air with violent precision.

My pocket vibrated urgently. I fumbled for my comm device, hands still shaking from the intensity of our confrontation. Andy’s voice crackled through, tight with anxiety.

“Kira! Are you okay? We picked up the building collapse. Status report, now!”

“I’m–we’re alive,” I managed, raising my voice above the noise. “Northeast corner of what used to be the facility.”

The helicopter descended rapidly, landing in a clear patch about fifty yards from where Rocco and I stood. The downdraft kicked up a blinding cloud of dust and small debris, forcing me to shield my eyes with my arm. Through the haze, I could make out figures jumping down before the rotors had fully slowed.

Andy was first, his tall frame moving with urgent purpose toward me. Rebecca followed close behind with two other team members I recognized from base operations. They all carried weapons, eyes scanning the perimeter as they approached.

Andy reached me first, his face transitioning from relief to fury in seconds flat. His eyes locked onto something, and I followed his gaze to my arm. For the first time, I noticed a long gash running from my elbow to my wrist, blood dried in crusty streaks. Must have happened during our escape–adrenaline had masked the pain until now.

“Jesus, Kira,” Andy muttered, gently taking my arm to examine the wound. “You’re hurt.”

“It’s nothing,” I said automatically, though now that I’d noticed it, the cut began to throb.

Andy’s eyes shifted to Rocco, hardening into something dangerous. “She’s injured. This is your idea of ‘I’ll protect her‘?

Rocco’s jaw tightened. “We just faced Lyra. The entire building was coming down around us.”

“Doesn’t look like Alpha power counts for much then, does it?” Andy’s voice dripped with contempt.

“You have no idea what the situation was,Rocco took a step forward, voice low and controlled.

“Andy, I’m fine,‘ I interjected, pulling my arm back. “It’s just some scrapes.”

Andy didn’t even look at me, his attention laser–focused on Rocco. “Every single time she’s with you, she gets hurt. Every. Single. Time.”

I felt the tension crackling between them like electricity in the air. Andy stood protectively close to me, while Rocco maintained his distance, his eyes flickering between Andy’s face and mine, I realized with a strange jolt that I was leaning slightly toward Andy, my body language unconsciously siding with him–especially after what Rocco had just revealed about Kim and the babies.

Rebecca approached with a med kit, breaking the standoff. “Let me take a look at that,” she said professionally, gesturing to my arm. I nodded, grateful for the distraction.

As Rebecca cleaned and dressed my wound, Andy crouched beside me, “What happened in there? Did you find anything about Lyra?”

I took a deep breath. “She’s alive, Andy. And she’s…” I hesitated, the reality still so bizarre I could barely articulate it. “She’s possessing Kim’s body. My sister. She’s been using her as some kind of vessel.”

Rebecca’s hands paused momentarily before continuing to wrap my arm. Andy’s expression darkened further.

“So your sister,” Andy turned back to Rocco, voice flat, “the one supposedly dead, is actually alive and has taken over your ex–lover’s body?”

A small, satisfied smile touched Andy’s lips as he guided me toward the helicopter. I didn’t look back at Rocco, but I could feel his eyes following me, burning with emotion I couldn’t–or wouldn’t–decipher.

As we walked away, I felt strangely liberated. For once, I wasn’t agonizing over Rocco’s feelings or carrying the guilt of our broken relationship. Maybe this was what I needed–distance from the person who had hurt me, and closeness to those who supported me.

“No sign of Lyra’s other operations,” Rebecca reported to Andy as we neared the helicopter. “Just debris.”

Andy nodded grimly. “We need to move out. Lyra could come back with reinforcements.”

I settled on the edge of the helicopter, looking back at the ruins and at Rocco, still standing where we’d left him. He seemed smaller somehow, diminished against the backdrop of destruction.

Chapter 222

“If you really care about her,” Andy called out to Rocco, “you’ll give her space.”

“This isn’t your decision to make, Andy,” Rocco replied, his voice carrying clearly despite the distance.

“It’s not yours either,” Andy shot back. “It’s Kira’s choice.

“Enough, both of you,” I interjected, too tired for their territorial display. “Let’s just go deal with the actual problems at hand.”

As Andy helped me into the helicopter, I caught one last glimpse of Rocco. He stood alone amid the rubble, his posture conveying a hurt I once would have rushed to soothe. Now, I simply turned away as the rotors began to spin, whipping my hair across my face and obscuring my view of the man who had once been my everything.
