Chapter 221

Kira’s POV

I stood with my back to Rocco, staring at the destruction around us. My fingers trembled as I clenched and unclenched my fists, trying to control the storm building inside me. The ruins of the collapsed building stretched out before us, eerily silent except for the occasional sound of loose stones tumbling down the debris piles.

I took a deep breath, but it didn’t help. My mind kept replaying what Rocco had just told me. Kim–my twin sister, my blood–alone in a hospital room, bleeding, terrified, giving birth to babies who had no chance. Babies who lived only long enough to take a few breaths in this world.

The image overlapped with my own memories of loss, of waking up in a hospital bed three years ago, my hand instinctively going to my flat stomach, the emptiness there a physical ache that never fully healed.

I could feel Rocco’s presence behind me, silent, waiting. The quiet between us was suffocating.

“You weren’t there,” I finally said, my voice barely above a whisper. I spun around to face him, no longer able to contain the rage that had been building for three years. “You weren’t there for either of us!

Rocco flinched as if I’d slapped him. Good. I wanted him to feel something–anythingclose to the pain he’d caused.

“Two women carrying your children, and you abandoned both of us when we needed you most.” My voice grew louder with each word, echoing off the concrete and twisted metal surrounding us. “Was your revenge really worth it? Was hunting down everyone you thought responsible for my ‘death‘ more important than the living, breathing woman carrying your babies?

“Kira, I—”

“No!” I cut him off, stepping closer, my finger jabbing at his chest. “You don’t get to explain this away. You had a choice, Rocco. Every single day, you made a choice to pursue your vendetta instead of taking care of Kim. Just like you chose to lie to me for months instead of telling me the truth about why you married me.”

Rocco’s expression changed from guilt to something more defensive. “You think I don’t know that? You think I don’t live with that knowledge every day?”

“Oh, I’m sure it’s been so hard for you,” I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm. “Poor Rocco, carrying the burden of his bad decisions while everyone else pays the price.

“I thought I’d lost you!” he shouted, his control finally slipping. “Do you have any idea what that did to me?”

I laughed, a harsh sound with no humor in it. “So your solution was to make sure Kim lost her children too? To make sure she went through that alone?” I shook my head in disgust. “You really are your father’s son.”

That hit him hard. I could see it in the way his jaw tightened, the flash of pain in his eyes.

“You think I wanted that outcome?” he asked, his voice lower now, “You think I deliberately abandoned her?”

“I think your actions and your inactions speak for themselves.” I crossed my arms, trying to hold myself together. “What you wanted doesn’t matter. What matters is what you did. Or didn’t do.”

I suddenly realized why this was affecting me so deeply. It wasn’t just about Kim–a sister I barely knew. It was about me. About us. About

the pattern of behavior that defined Rocco Blackwood.

“This isn’t really about Kim, is it?” I said, more to myself than to him. “It’s about how you treat the people who love you. How you use them for your own purposes and then discard them when they’re no longer useful.”

Rocco took a step toward me, his expression softening. “Kira, please. I know I’ve made terrible mistakes. I know I’ve hurt you–hurt both of you. If I could go back…”

“But you can’t, I interrupted. “None of us can.”

“Fix it?” I repeated incredulously. “You can’t fix this, Rocco. You can’t bring back my wolf. You can’t bring back Kim’s babies. You can’t undo the last three years.”

The right thing?” I shook my head. “This isn’t about doing the right thing. This is about you never considering the consequences of your actions. About you being so focused on your goals that you don’t see the destruction you leave in your wake.”

“No, you listen,” I cut him off again. “Do you know what the most ironic thing is? You were so afraid of me dying that you killed everything between us with your own hands.”
