Chapter 259
I studied the intertwined patterns. “We need a more precise approach. Something that allows for selective separation rather than brute force extraction.
As we worked, my mother approached my workstation. “Thank you for helping her.”
I nodded without looking up. “It’s my job.”
“She’s your sister, Kira,” she pressed. ‘Whatever happened in the past-
“I’m aware of our biological relationship, I cut her off. “Right now, I’m helping her because I can, not because of it.”
“I know I owe you explanations,” she finally said.
“Now isn’t the time,” I replied, finally looking up. “We need to focus on the immediate problem.”
Andy approached, offering an escape. “Rebecca needs additional computing power for the simulations.”
I nodded gratefully. “I’ll set that up.”
As I moved away, I caught Rocco watching me. Our eyes met briefly before I turned away, ignoring the tightness in my chest.
Six hours later, we had modified the container as much as possible, but faced a new challenge.
“We need Kim’s conscious participation,” I explained to the team. “The separation requires her to actively distinguish her thoughts from
Lyra’s.”
“That means reducing the suppression compound,” the doctor warned. “Lyra will become more active again.”
“It’s a necessary risk,” I stated firmly. “We need Kim’s cooperation for precise separation.”
I approached Kim’s bed to explain the procedure. “We need to reduce the suppression compound to allow Kim partial consciousness.”
My mother looked up anxiously. “Will this hurt her?”
“Pain isn’t the primary concern,” I said honestly. “The risk is Lyra regaining control during the process.”
The team prepared while a nurse adjusted Kim’s medication. Gradually, Kim began to stir.
“Kim,” I said clearly. “Can you hear me?”
Her eyes focused slowly. “Kira? What’s happening?”
“We’re going to separate Lyra’s consciousness from yours,” I explained. “But we need your help.”
Kim’s face contorted suddenly. “You can’t separate us,” Lyra’s voice emerged. “We’re integrated now,”
Kim regained control momentarily. “Help me,” she gasped. “She’s so strong…”
