Chapter 63
Kira’s POV
My sudden proposal to collaborate with him and start anew had clearly taken him by surprise, yet he had accepted—albeit with some strict conditions. Rather than allowing me to serve as his secretary at the Blackwood Group’s main office, he had restricted me to the study within the mansion, surrounded by piles of Luna Shadow marketing files.
“First, prove your loyalty,” he had said with a cold edge while dropping off the documents yesterday morning. “Only then will we talk about more important tasks.”
It was glaringly obvious that he didn’t trust this abrupt change in my attitude—and honestly, I couldn’t blame him. Just a few days earlier, I had been throwing vases at his head in furious rage.
Now, I found myself seated in the quiet, dimly lit study of the Blackwood mansion, sorting through the marketing files for Luna Shadow that Rocco had assigned me to organize. The room smelled faintly of leather and old wood, the heavy curtains drawn to keep the sunlight muted. Suddenly, the front door slammed shut with such force that the crystal paperweight sitting on the desk trembled slightly.
“Where is she?” a voice rang out sharply down the hallway—eerily similar to mine but harsher, more commanding.
The sound of heavy footsteps grew louder, and before I could even rise fully, the study door burst open. There stood Kim, my twin sister, her face flushed with anger, nostrils flared as if she had tracked my scent through the entire house. She wore a sleek, designer dress that hugged her curves perfectly, exuding an air of confidence and menace.
“So it’s true,” she spat venomously, her gaze cutting into me with undisguised disdain. “You’re still living here. In MY Alpha’s home.”
Despite the sharp ache pounding in my chest, I forced my expression into neutrality. “Hello to you too, Kim,” I replied calmly.
She stormed into the room, her perfectly manicured nails curled like claws at her sides, radiating hostility. “Don’t act innocent. What exactly are you doing here? You have no right to be in this house anymore.”
I carefully set down the file I had been holding, deliberately keeping my movements steady even as adrenaline surged through me. My voice came out steadier than I expected, though I wished it were stronger. “My living arrangements aren’t your concern.”
Kim laughed bitterly, the sound cold and void of any real amusement. “Living arrangements? Is that what you call it? The whole pack is buzzing about how Rocco’s pathetic ex-mate refuses to leave his territory, even after the divorce.”
I took a deep, controlled breath, fighting to keep my composure intact. The last thing I needed was to let her see how much her words wounded me.
