Alpha's Regret After the Divorce by Christina novel Chapter 64

Chapter 64

“I’m employed with the Luna Shadow brand,” I corrected firmly. “And once again, whatever arrangement I have with Rocco is none of your business.”

Her smile twisted into something sharp and cruel. “Secretary, brand assistant—call it what you want. We both know the truth behind your intentions. When will you finally accept that it’s over? He doesn’t want you anymore.”

I felt my patience slipping away, thread by thread. “If we’re talking about unwelcome third parties inserting themselves where they don’t belong, I think you might be the expert on that topic.”

Her voice dropped to a low, dangerous growl. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me,” I said, straightening despite the ache that pulsed through my bones. “If anyone’s the third wheel here, it’s you. You barged into our lives and—”

Before I could finish, Kim lunged at me with a snarl, her hand morphing halfway into claws as she raised it to strike.

“Enough.”

That single word, spoken in Rocco’s deep, commanding voice, stopped us both in our tracks. He stood framed in the doorway, his expression unreadable and cold, an aura of raw power radiating from him in waves that made even my weakened wolf instinctively want to submit.

Kim instantly pulled back her claws, her entire posture shifting as if someone had flipped a switch. The fury in her eyes dissolved into a practiced vulnerability, her body relaxing.

“Rocco,” she whispered, her voice suddenly small and wounded, “I’m sorry. She just provoked me. The things she said…”

I almost admired the performance. Almost.

Rocco’s piercing blue gaze shifted from Kim to me, revealing no hint of his thoughts. “What’s going on here?”

Before I could answer, Kim slid closer to his side, pressing her body against him and subtly rubbing her cheek against his shoulder—a distinctively wolf-like gesture of scent-marking.

“I heard she’s still living here,” Kim said, her tone dripping with honeyed sweetness now. “I don’t understand, Rocco. How can your ex-mate still be living in your territory? In our home?” She placed a possessive hand on his chest. “It makes me and the pups feel… unsafe.”

Kim slipped her arm through Rocco’s, smiling up at him with a manufactured adoration. As they turned to leave, she cast one last smug glance over her shoulder, clearly convinced she had won.

What she didn’t realize was that I was more than ready to escape the constant reminder of everything I’d lost.

Three hours and two trips later, carrying my few belongings, I finally arrived back at my modest apartment near the edge of the werewolf territory. I set down the last box with a deep sigh of relief, looking around at the dusty surfaces. The place felt abandoned, untouched since the last time I’d been here, but there was something quietly liberating about the silence. No constant awareness of Rocco’s presence, no maids watching my every move, no oppressive grandeur that had never truly felt like mine.

I ran my fingers along the windowsill, brushing away a thin layer of dust as I gazed out at the trees marking the boundary between werewolf land and the human world beyond. So close to freedom, yet still trapped by Rocco’s threats hanging over my father’s life.

Suddenly, a floorboard creaked behind me, and I froze. I hadn’t heard the door open or sensed anyone entering. Before I could turn around, a hand clamped firmly over my mouth from behind, and a strong arm wrapped tightly around my waist.

My first instinct was to struggle, to fight back, but my weakened body betrayed me.

“Hush, it’s me.”
