Chapter 94
Rocco’s Perspective
I stood motionless before the shattered screen, crimson staining my knuckles and seeping through the fabric of my shirt from the silver dagger lodged deep in my chest. My heart pounded erratically against my ribs, yet the pain felt distant, replaced by a numbness that froze my thoughts in place.
Kira had jumped. She actually leapt.
The haunting image replayed relentlessly in my mind: her unnervingly calm demeanor, an eerie peace enveloping her as if she had already accepted her fate. There was no resistance, no terror—just a quiet, unyielding resolve. I couldn’t wrap my head around it. Why? Why would she surrender so completely?
Suddenly, memories surged back in waves—snippets from the time since I’d begun orchestrating my revenge. Kira had never truly tried to win me back, not even after I publicly humiliated her. She bore everything in silence. And whenever she did approach me, there always seemed to be some hidden agenda behind her words.
Had she ever truly loved me? Or was the connection I believed in nothing but a figment of my imagination?
“You never fought for me,” I murmured, my voice raw and strained. “Why?”
The silver wound in my chest burned fiercely, yet that pain paled beside the hollow void spreading inside me. I had inflicted so much suffering on her, all in the name of vengeance—punishing her father’s sins. But if she didn’t care, why choose such a desperate end?
No, it didn’t add up. Someone indifferent wouldn’t leap off a cliff. There had to be something I was missing.
Dominic approached cautiously, his footsteps soft but echoing in the vast, silent banquet hall. “Alpha,” he said quietly, “the search team is ready. Shall we move to the location?”
I turned to him, catching the worry etched in his eyes. Around me, everyone remained frozen, shock rendering them motionless. Their gazes were fixed on me, waiting for my command. William stood nearby, his face unreadable, while Vanessa knelt on the floor, tears streaming freely down her cheeks.
“Yes,” I answered, my voice steadier than I felt inside. “I’ll lead the team myself.”
“Rocco!” Vanessa’s grip suddenly tightened on my arm, her nails digging painfully into my skin. “You have to bring Kim back! Please!”
I looked down at her tear-streaked face, a cold shiver running through me. She hadn’t even mentioned Kira’s name, despite both her daughters being in danger. I nodded outwardly, though my mind was consumed by only one thought: I had to find Kira.
