Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 108

Chapter 108

“What?” I choke out. “No. No, no. My wife is your friend, Aeliana Hartley Vale.” I blurt, the misunderstanding making Rowan cackle beside me.

Noah gasps again, this time the excitement in her eyes grows. “Ellie? Are you married to my Aeliana? How in the ant’s balls did that happen?”

Ant’s balls?

My gaze shifts to Rowan, unsure if I’m hearing her right but I am, and so is he. “You,” she glares. “You finally belong to My Aeliana?” Her jaw drops, once again speaking before I can answer her. “Take me to her,” she commands. “I need to see my Ellie baby.”

“Now?”

She nods, sliding the suitcase towards Rowan who gasps but doesn’t say anything. “This way,” I say, showing her to the car. Rowan walks past me, dragging Noah’s suitcase as it offended him too.

Noah is on a call the entire way to the car. She settles in the backseat, without a seatbelt, right in the middle, and then she leans forward. “That was the university,” she says, dropping her phone in the seat next to her. “Your car smells nice, what’s that? Jasmine? I love jasmine.” She giggles. “I smell like jasmine too, except I’m edible.”

My head slowly turns, meeting her, she stares back-unblinking, innocent.

Rowan sighs, finally finding his voice. “You’re something.”

“I’m delightful,” she corrects. “Now, you say you married my Ellie. Why wasn’t I the maid of honour?” She asks, “Some vows were broken, I was promised Maid of honour, and I already made daddy buy the bachelorette party boat, ugh. Tragic.” She pauses, I think she’s done talking but she begins again. “What kind of-”

“How was your flight?” I ask, not wanting to engage in matters that she should be talking to Aeliana about.

Noah groans, “Flight was hell, the one time I decided to fly with the other half, and some guy kept trying to explain sports to me like an idiot. Worse? His favourite player is an ex of mine, I told him if he didn’t shut up, I’d

hex him.”

Rowan stares through the rearview mirror. “You hex people?”

“Duh, did you not see my bewitching eyes?” She giggles, “So, how is my Ellie? I hope you don’t have her in an apron.” She says, the fear in her voice unmistakable. “My poor baby, no wonder she’s not answering calls, she must be embarrassed.”

“Embarrassed?”

“Yes, wouldn’t you be embarrassed if you came back to the place you escaped?” She asks, “How is she, doing? New places are hard to settle into.”

“She’s fine,” I say. “And she’s been here her whole life so she’s adjusting.”

Noah snorts out a laugh, “Ew. Fucking gross,” she scoffs. “So you’re telling me that my Ellie is miserable. She doesn’t adjust,” she says, tapping me on the shoulder, forcing me to stare at her. “Adjusting is a waste of time, my Ellie either conquers or she leaves, she doesn’t like staying places that make it a challenge to settle. And she hasn’t left yet, so something’s keeping her here.” She trails off, her lips curving into a devious smile. “I can see why.”

Her gaze makes me shift, very uncomfortably.

“Are you always this forward?”

“Only when I’m surrounded by hot werewolves,” she says sweetly. “Speaking of hot, Alpha Kingston-”

“Married,” I immediately say, slapping my hand on my thigh so she can see my wedding band.

“To my Ellie, right. Forgot.” She says, leaning more forward between the seats. “Sidekick?”

“My name is Rowan, and I’m married, Miss Fren.”

“Noah,” she corrects him. “I’m only Miss Fren to my students, and lovers. Basically, only those I teach a little something.”
