“Honey?” I gasp eyes shifting to Kingston whose expression hardens, giving me an i told you so look. Of course i knew Professor Ellingham wanted to fuck me, but we got past that sometime three years ago, and not once has he been inappropriate with me.

“Oh, sorry.” She hisses, looking over at him. “Married. I’ll shut up now.” She whispers.

I can’t help but laugh, I missed this. I missed being around someone this real, at least a younger person. Luna Estelle is pretty real with me, but she’s Kingston’s mom, she’s older, we couldn’t ever talk this way, but Noah? God, I love this girl. “He thought so too,” I whisper to her, holding her closer.

She laughs, looking right at him. It unnerves him, which makes me laugh in return. Danielle and Audrey arrive, with someone else whom I don’t recognise, their own laughter dulling ours when they enter.

Danielle pauses, “Hi,” she greets, smiling still.

“Hi Dani,” I return her smile, holding Noah still.

Audrey’s eyes land on Noah, lips parting in shock for a moment. “Who’s this?” She asks, but I have an inkling she knows exactly who Noah is. Noah’s hobbies make her popular in circles Audrey plays in.

Noah looks up at me, “Is that the owner of the house?”

“No, that’s Audrey,” I tell her, trying to sound neutral, like seeing her right now didn’t just ruin my joy.

“The little bitch who…” I squeeze her arm, and she quiets, fixing her attitude. “I’m Noah.”

Audrey forces a smile. “A friend of Aeliana’s?”

“No,” Noah shifts, sitting up. “I just hug everyone I meet for the first time this way. You next?”

Audrey rolls her eyes, “Oh, yep. Definitely her friend.”

Noah sucks her teeth, “And I can tell you’re not.”

“Noah just moved here from Clinshore,” Rowan chimes in, ending the very unnecessary exchange between Noah and Audrey. I’ve told Noah a bit about Audrey, and she’s not a fan at all.

“Yeah,” I nod. “She’s going to be lecturing at VU.”

“VU?” Danielle gasps, “Wow. Congratulations Noah, I’m Danielle by the way.

“Smart,” the other girl says.

“Oh, Danielle,” Noah says, dragging the elle in her name. “Not Daniel”

Danielle frowns, “What?”

“Nothing, babe,” Rowan says, putting his arm out. Danielle immediately goes to him, curling under it.

“You’re so pretty, Danielle.”

“Thank you,” she smiles.

“Honey, you must be tired from your flight, and hungry,” I say, caressing her arm. “Dinner will be ready a little late, but let’s get you something to eat, yeah?”

“I’m not hungry, baby.” She sighs, “But I am tired, so I should get going.”

“You can stay the night,” Kingston offers. “Or as long as you like. I dragged you from the airport to meet Aeliana before you were well rested, it’s the least I can do.”

He brought her here, but how did he know about her job, how the hell did he know about her? My gaze shifts to him and he remains smiling at Noah, a little too hard for my liking.

“He’s so cute, baby.” She tells me, “But no thank you, Alpha Kingston, I would like to settle in at VU, if I don’t the first night then it’ll trouble me.”

“Are you sure?” He raises an eyebrow. “I can have someone prepare a room for you.”

“I’m sure,” she nods. “Thank you for letting yourself enjoy my presence, and for surprising my Aeliana.’

Audrey silently gasps, eyes shifting to Kingston. “You brought her here?”

“Yeah, she’s a good friend.” He tells her, making me wonder even more how it is that he knows of her. I never once mentioned her, did he have someone dig into me? “I thought they might want to see each other.”

“And did,” Noah nods. “Now, who will drive me back? Sidekick?”

“It’s Rowan,” he tells her.

She giggles, “Sidekick fits better.”

“Noah, Rowan is our Beta.” Audrey says, “You need to address him by that, or his name, no offence but your petname seems a little-”

“My, oh my,” Noah hisses. “Hmm, aren’t you a ray of sunshine, doll? His wife didn’t complain, nor did he.”

Her response gags Audrey, “I-I was just trying to-”
