She can’t stop sobbing. “I’m sorry, Luna Estelle.”

“Let it out. You’ll feel better.” I urge, “And when you do, we can work on your confidence towards leadership. You’ve forbidden me from interfering in your marriage, and I won’t, but you’re my little Luna prodigy.” I smile, ” And I’ll make sure you feel worthy when you receive your ordainment. The future of this pack is in your hands.” I tell her, pausing when I realise how much pressure that must have put on her. “But it’s okay,” I whisper. “You’re okay.”
She doesn’t say anything more, she silently sobs, her tears soaking my dress. I keep comforting her in silence until she finally falls asleep. Even then, she twitches like she’s crying in her dreams still.
“Mom?” Kingston calls from the door, watching carefully, unsure if he should come in or not.
“She’s asleep.”
He comes in, staring down at her. “I’ll take her.”
“Not so fast,” I say, pointing to the sofa opposite me. He hesitates, but sits regardless. “Now, what have you done to this girl?”
“Nothing,” he swallows. And nothing seems like a whole lot of something from where I’m sitting. “I scolded her a bit, she had a little to drink.”
“And a lot to say.” I nod to myself. “I have a marriage of my own, and way too many kids whose relationships I can’t interfere with but you and her…” I trail off. “You’re going to be leading this pack together, and I feel the need to ask if you are still treating your marriage like a backup? We’ve talked about this, if you don’t get your act together, you’re going to lose her.”
He sighs, massaging his temples. “It’s nothing of that sort, Mom. I know there’s no other end than with her and I am trying, I am giving it my best. All I did was try to make her happy, to make up for my mistake, but I guess I should have spoken to her and her friend first.”
“Do you know how unready she feels to be our Luna?”
“I know, she keeps saying she isn’t Luna, and I do tell her she is, I do tell her she is my wife and not Audrey, I’ve told her several times and I don’t know what else to do.”
“Everything,” I counter. “This here is your wife, you do whatever it takes.”
“She won’t talk to me.”
“Then give her time, wait until she’s ready.” I urge, even though patience isn’t his strong suit, he could learn from her, the girl is patient. “She’s holding more burdens than she unloaded to me.’
“What did she say?”
I shake my head, “Nothing that I didn’t already know but it stays between us. All I can say to you is that you should start being her husband, if you’re bad at that then for goodness’ sake, son, be her mate, her Alpha, the justly Alpha that you’ve always been.”
He nods, staring at her in my lap. “Can I take her home now?”
“It’s late, stay the night. I’ll prepare your room.”
“No, it’s fine.” He rises, “She’ll be very embarrassed if she wakes up here. She’s already pissed that I dragged her

here, she didn’t want to come, but she was crying, she was screaming, and I couldn’t hold a conversation with her.”
He reaches for her, careful and steady as he sweeps her into his arms. She stirs a little but she doesn’t wake up, she curls against him. “Don’t scold her again,” I warn. “Because then, I would have to scold you too, and gods know I have a little to say to your ignorant self. Seriously, what the hell, son? I don’t recognise you anymore. I thought she was safe with you.”
“She is,” he swallows, his expression pained.
I trust him, but I know how my son is, half the time his actions are questionable but the intent behind them is pure. “Doesn’t seem so, you don’t have her back as much as you do. Aeliana is your wife, you need to have her back no matter what.”
“Mom, I can’t when she’s wrong, but-”
“Do better.” I snap.
“I am,” he swallows. “It hurts me when she hurts, I feel the shifts in our bond every time her mood shifts, and when I try to talk to her, it doesn’t work. She never wants to address anything.”
“The inauguration must be getting to her, let’s move it up at least four days.”
“What?!” He chokes out, his gaze lowering to Aeliana, making sure his outburst didn’t wake her. He cares, why is it so hard for her to see? “Everything is prepared, invites were-”
“Change it all.” I counter, “The whole week is auspicious. I have enough dirt on all important guests, they will come when I ask. But if you want a run away on your day then don’t change a thing.”
