Chapter 130

AELIANA

When Luna Estelle came over earlier, I was so ashamed, having little to no recollection of the conversation in which I must have embarrassed myself. But thankfully, Luna Estelle didn’t mention anything, she simply invited Noah and me to join her at the children’s foundation.

This place is not like I expected, I actually feel better after coming here, tired but still, being around the children has done what it usually takes about six glasses of wine to do. When I leave the kids with two regular volunteers, I find Noah again. She’s sprawled on the blanket, staring up at the sky while the girls play on her phone, taking turns posing and capturing each other. “My Ellie,” she says, sitting up, lowering her sunglasses.

“You seem to be having fun,” I smile. The girls quiet down when they hear my voice. They haven’t said more than a hello to me, they probably heard everything the adults have to say about me, but they don’t appear to dislike me either, they seem to just not know what to do with me or around me.

But they seem to have warmed up to Noah just fine. Noah notices the shift with the girls too, “What happened?” She frowns, “Oh, I see. You’re scared of your Luna, I know there is a common misconception about Lunas, but she’s actually cool.”

One of the girls with purple streaks in her hair and all black clothing rolls her eyes, “We know that, Miss Noah. We figured it out the moment she stuck it out with those little demons, but that doesn’t mean we will braid her hair and spill our secrets to her.”

“You must be perfect huh,” another says.

I simply shake my head, and she smiles, “Of course you are, that’s why you married big NA.”

I frown, “Who?”

“Alpga Kingston,” the girl with purple in her hair clarifies. “That’s our nickname for him, and what Liora is trying to say is that you’re more perfect than Miss Audrey.”

“I don’t think anyone is as perfect as her, bit I’ll take the compliment.” I smile, it’s the first time anyone has thought I was better than Audrey, and even given the context, I still take the win. “Anyway..” I clear my throat, eyes shifting to Noah. “Do you want to stick around or-”

“Let’s go,” she immediately nods. “I’m tired, and I need to unwind.”

“Are you guys going clubbing?” One girl asks, her eyes lighting up. “That sounds like so much fun.”

I raise an eyebrow at Noah, and she shrugs, smiling widely. “Sue me,” she scoffs. “You know the only kids I hang around are deposited into my thro-”

“Okay,” I nervously laugh. “Let’s git the road, my honey.”

She puts her arm out, and I help her up, she takes a moment to say goodbye to the children, and we head out, but not before I say goodbye and thank you to my mother-in-law for inviting me.

After a few hours at Noah’s apartment, we decide to stay in for dinner, and I offer to cook while she prepares her lessons for the week, because we have plans tonight and tomorrow night too, and the night after that is the official inauguration ceremony and this time, I feel a lot more ready, I’m not freaking out at all.

It takes me two failed attempts at making a pasta without reading the instructions before I realise I would have to live off eggs, and bread as I would in Clinshore if I didn’t have the house staff.

I’m a little surprised Noah has food considering we always eat out, and when she sees the overcooked pasta and undercooked chicken, she doesn’t complain, we wind up having just that way, with too much sauce to make the meal more edible.
