Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 157

Chapter 157

AELIANA

I awaken to the feel of someone’s touch.

My first instinct is to scream, but my mouth is closed, and my throat feels raw. “Stop,” I scream, but my words come out mumbled, weak. I fight hard to open my eyes, but they feel too heavy.

“Siren,” Kingston says. “It’s me.”

I find the strength to open my eyes, his face being the first thing that I see. “King?”

“Yeah,” he nods, his lips curving into a weak smile. “How do you feel?”

My eyes are fixed on the blood on his shirt, and it heightens my vision. “You’re hurt,” my voice trembles. “You have blood on-”

“It’s not mine,” he swallows, something broken flickering in his gaze. “How do you feel, Siren?”

Everything hurts, but I don’t say anything.

“Fine.” I swallow, slowly rising. Kingston helps me sit up, steadying me. The second I move, my head feels heavier, like someone is banging a hammer against my skull. My whole body is sore, but nothing beats the pain above my neck, I can’t ignore it anymore. The throbbing keeps growing. “My head hurts.

“Okay,” he caresses my cheek. “I’ll get Maddox, stay right here okay?” He coos, looking back at my slightly open door. “Lexie!”

Lexie arrives a moment later, her head low like it always is when she’s around him. She pauses at the door, hands behind her back. “Yes, Alpha-Luna Aeliana..” she gasps, her gaze widening

I force a smile, “Hi.”

“Stay with her,” Kingston commands. “I will fetch Maddox.”

“Yes, Alpha.” She nods.

Kingston kisses the back of my hand that he was rubbing earlier, and he leaves, looking over his shoulder once more before he walks away.

Once he is gone, Lexie moves closer to me. “Luna Aeliana, you’re alright.”

“Yes.” I nod, my head throbbing intensely with each passing second. I try to get out of bed, hoping a shower will do the trick, but the moment that my feet touch the floor, Lexie moves.

“Please don’t move,” she gasps, helping me put my feet back on the bed. “Please wait for the Doctor, Luna Aeliana.”

I close my eyes, letting my head rest against the headboard. “I’m fine.”

“You scared us, I’m glad you’re okay.” She smiles, sounding genuinely relieved. “Miss Noah has been a mess since last night, but Beta got her to sleep a few minutes ago. She’s been very worried, all of us have. Even Miss Audrey.” She says, speaking a little too fast for me to respond. “But no one was more worried than Alpha Kingston, he was so upset.”

“Fuck.” I groan. Memories from last night flooding my brain. I was supposed to drive around the block, and race Noah while another girl we met timed us, but before that, I decided to test drive the car a bit, but I lost control,

and wrecked the car.

It’s Kingston’s favourite one, no wonder he was upset. Anticipating the scolding that I will get once Maddox makes sure I’m physically alright. “I’m in trouble.”

“They’ve been trying to find the car that crashed into you, but there are no leads, nothing on the cameras. No one saw anything, others say a truck, others a car, it’s a dead-end investigation.”

“It was probably an accident,” I hiss, trying not to smack my head. “I was going too fast, someone’s car drove in front of me, and I slammed the brakes, then everything went bleak until I was surrounded by people.”

Lexie gasps, “Wow, it’s wonderful you survived, the car was badly hit. Not even a great machinist can fix that.”

“Oh God, he is mad at me, isn’t he?”

She pauses, “Umm..”

“You can tell me,” I urge.

“I don’t know, Luna Aeliana.” She swallows, her tone lower now. “It’s not my place to say, but he has been upset since you they-”

She falls silent, her gaze once again low. My eyes move to the door, Kingston is back, and with Maddox, who seems to have adopted Kingston’s nature of arrival.

“I hear someone is awake,” Maddox says with a smile, watching me closely

“Maddox.”

“Hi Kid, how are you doing?” He asks, occupying Kingston’s previous seat.

“Good,” I force a smile. “But not so great.”

“You tried to flee from your newfound responsibility,” he says, staring blankly at me. “You could have just said no to the crowning.”

I pause, my eyes shifting to Kingston. “I wasn’t-”

“Stop teasing her, and do your job.” He snaps.

Maddox grins, looking over his shoulder. “Would you look at that, you seem to have learned how to use your vocal cords again, Alpha Kingston.” He says. “Luna, let’s see….” He says.

I turn towards him, looking at him while Maddox examines me. Kingston doesn’t look at me once, he keeps his eyes on every movement that Maddox makes. He really must be very upset with me if he can’t talk to me.

“Hmm,” Maddox hums.

“What, hmm?”

“Nothing, she’s fine.” He says, putting his stethoscope down. “Everything is alright, mild concussion, but she will be fine.”

“Her head hurts,” Kingston tells him.

Maddox nods, “Naturally it should. She hit the steering wheel pretty hard, and it’s good.”

“Good?” I frown.

“Yes, because it could be worse.” He says, “You truly have the moon goddess’s blessings, Luna Aeliana.”

“She should bless me with some cautiousness,” I sigh. “And sense,” I mumble to myself.

“Your medicines are ready, you’ll take them after you’ve eaten. For now, take lots and lots of rest.”

“Rest will be a little hard because–”

“Done,” Kingston says.
