Chapter 158
An hour later, both of us are clean, fresh, and fed. Well, I am fed. Kingston watches me eat, refusing to eat until I’ve eaten and finished everything on my plate. I eat it all. Every last morsel on my plate, but Kingston doesn’t hold his end of the bargain, he insists on cleaning my wound a second time. It’s mild, unlikely to leave a scar, but he insists so I let him. He puts a new band-aid on me and sits back, examining the situation.
“How do you feel now?”
“I’m okay.” I lie, the drugs are yet to hit my system, but they should anytime soon.
“Maddox suggested you rest,” he reminds me.
“I’m not tired,” I almost whisper, playing with my fingers. I can barely look at him. “I can’t.”
“You just went through something very…” he trails off, speaking again after a pregnant pause. “Eventful.”
Right.
I nod to myself. “About that, I am so sorry that I took your car out. I know how much you liked it, and I…”
He sighs, shaking his head and massaging his temples. “No, Aeliana.”
“I’m really sorry King, I know my words mean nothing, and I can’t fix this, but I’m truly sorry about the car. It was all my fault.”
“The car?” He scoffs. “Its only significance now is that you were in it when it got wrecked. I don’t care about the damn car. I have cars,” he snaps, his voice growing angrier with every word. “Your life is worth more than a darn car, I can buy another car, but another you?” He swallows. “Gods, what were you thinking getting behind the wheel so drunk?”
I shake my head. “I wasn’t thinking.”
His gaze meets mine, pleading. “Promise me that you’re never going to put yourself at risk like that again. I never want to feel that afraid again.”
“Afraid?”
He slowly nods, the more he stares at me, the more devastated he looks. “I thought I had lost you Aeliana. I thought I lost you. I thought I’d never see you again, I thought I’d never hear you laugh again. When Caleb told me my car was involved in an accident, I couldnt stomach never…never having to hold you again.” He chokes out.” Never feeling your breath against me, never having to fight with you, never making you come, never waking up inside you again. I thought I’d have to live in a world where you didn’t exist. And I can’t-I can’t do that.” He chokes out, his eyes watering, but he doesn’t cry. “I don’t care if we spend our lives fighting, but I care if you’re not with me. It’s a miracle you escaped barely hurt.”
I feel like shit.
I don’t know what to say, I expected him to scold me about the car, hell I was prepared for it, but he doesn’t care about the car. His first thought was of me. Not the car he spent millions customising to his liking. Still, I feel bad for taking it. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have gotten behind the wheel regardless of how little I had drunk.”
King nods, “You should not have. But we can’t turn back time, so let’s be happy you’re unharmed, and learn from this.”
“Are you mad?” I ask, my voice mellow. “You look mad.”

“I almost lost you, of course, I’m fucking livid.” He groans, his tone sharp. “But not at you, at fate, for continuously playing wicked tricks on my love.”
I pause, my chest tightening. “Love?” I whisper, unsure if I heard him correctly.
He nods instantly. “I love you, Aeliana,” he says, his voice soft and assertive. It makes my stomach do that flip thing, and my brain stutters. “And that brief moment when I didn’t know how you were-it crushed me. Even our bond felt weak, I felt hopeless, I could barely stand, but I still found my way to you.” He says. His words come so easily, effortlessly, and yet they land so heavily. I’m overwhelmed, stuck a few sentences behind. “What is it?”
“You..you” I pause, taking a breath. “You said you love me.”
