“Yes, tonight I’m calling Damien’s clinging friend,” she says with an eyeroll. “I can’t be overworked and underfucked another day.”

“I hear you,” I nod. “I made a mess in my sleep.”

She frowns, motioning towards the door. “Kingston is downstairs.”

I nod again. I’m painfully aware of that fact. “I’m mad at him, and Audrey caught me so there’s that.”

Noah hisses, “You live such an interesting life, my Ellie. Makes me glad I’m not tied down to any of that mate mess.”

“Gives you a chance to choose who ends up with you, but you’d better choose someone soon, my honey. Or you’ll have more Darrens.”

“All the good ones are taken,” she pouts.

“Not really,” I say, I know of quite a few good men, but they’re not her type, she loves the chase, but never the catch.

She pauses, tapping her fingers on her thigh. “What if the one I want is taken? Hmm?”

“We find you another one, the perfect guy is still out there,” I tell her. “He’s going to know just how to handle you, you need a connection that runs deeper than lust.”

“But I like lust, lust is fine. But love? Love is scary, I don’t want whatever this is you have with Kingston.”

“Hey!” I whine, slightly offended but hell, I don’t want it either, no one does.

“Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful, but my Ellie, it scares me. I wouldn’t last a day.’

“You’re not a quitter, and not every man is Kingston.” I smile, not letting my fucked up relationship mess with her idea of love. She hasn’t been around love much. “Look at Rowan, such a darn angel, always has been.”

Sge shrugs, her lips twitching with a smile. “He’s okay.”

“Sure is, Danielle is very lucky.” I nod, “No stress with him, unless he forgets a birthday or anniversary, which I don’t think he can because he is very intentional.”

“And bossy, I hate it.” She groans, but he is exactly the type of man she needs in her life. Noah thinks she runs the show, and men never stand up to her, they do anything because she’s pretty, but Rowan? He doesn’t care for her looks. “He’s always telling me what to do, not even my dad does that.”

“Because Rowan isn’t scared of you, your dad is. That poor man is scared of losing his baby girl if she gets upset with him.”

Her lips curve into a wide smile that makes her eyes twinkle. “Pretty sure that’s how Alpha Kingston feels about losing you right now.”

“Oh, crap. He recruited you to his side,” I groan, letting myself drop on the mattress, I’m half joking, and half serious. I was hoping she would be immune to his charms, but she’s reasoning with him.

“Never,” she sighs. “You’re my girl. I’ll always support you, but that man was so broken.”

“Let’s not talk about him.” I sigh, I’ll handle that later. “Why don’t you tell me how your day was? How was the lecture?”
